CPU Sample Engineering problem, HELP!

Alright, so this morning, I was playing my games and whatnot and it was running fine before I left to work. (AC3).
Then when I come come, and I jump onto AC3, I noticed that my frames were a bit choppy. TOO choppy. Then when I go and look at system properties and CPU-Z,
It reads that my phenom II 955 BE was an Engineering sample (on system properties.)
Then on CPU-Z, it reads the same thing and says I'm running an AMD Opteron 64, running at 1.6MHz.

Does anyone have a quick fix to this if not at all?

I sure would appreciate the help on whether I need a new CPU (Kinda don't wanna buy one since my 955 runs just fine) or if I should get a new CPU, or just take it out and plug it back into the socket. Thanks

You could put a new chip in, but make sure you take note of the pin type of the cpu the board will except.
I would have a check in the bios to see if all the settings are right for the Cpu, I could hardly see How a phenom II 955 Black Edition could change to a Opteron chip.
The programs may be miss reporting the chip due to the bios settings of the Cpu.

It appears that while you were at work, your house had been invaded by hardware gnomes.

These are quite nasty little creatures, they tend to reside in old cupboards, and often under flights of stairs if they are not checked for and cleaned out regularly.

Now, a gnome infestation can be a very devious problem if they are not taken care of swiftly. They enjoy spontaneously raiding electronics when everything is quiet, and removing pieces of hardware only to replace them with scraps.

The best course of action to take, is to purchase traps such as a cage trap used for small animals. You shall then place objects such as a motherboard or a video card inside of them as bait, they find these irresistible.

They should be left for seven to nine hours in order to provide the best chance of capture. If you come back home from work and you have trapped some gnomes, bring them at least 20 miles away, preferably to a local forest and release them safely.

As for your processor, I am sorry but once they have a hold of your stuff, it's as good as gone.

I'm pretty sure I have the correct Bios and everything. I'm just not sure what happened to make it turn into an AMD Engineering Sample. Everything ran fine before I left to work...Lol.

I tell you its wrong the multiplyer is set to x8 200x8 fsb is 1600 Mhz cpu speed.
Change the multiplyer, and also turn off the cool and quiet option in the bios it down clocks the chip for powersaving, and turn P- state off in the bios if it has one.

Multiplyer should be set to 16x 200 memory speed. I am not sure what type of memory or the speed rating of it is but as a rule for example 200Mhz memory speed x cpu multiplyer so 200Mhz x 16 = 3.2Ghz cpu speed. However DD2 memory would be 400Mhz as it is 400Mhz each way. So it would be 400Mhz x8. if the case the memory speed set could also be the problem in that case the setting would be 400Mhz memory speed x8 cpu multiplyer. That would give you a cpu speed of 3.2Ghz also. The memory setting is clearly wrong, and the multiplyer for the cpu set wrong. DD3 at 1600Mhz would be a 800Mhz each way then x 4 cpu multiplyer. 800x4 =3.2Ghz Cpu speed. When you down clock some Cpu`s it will be reported as the wrong chip due to its speed rating by some programs, as it gets the information from the bios on how the chip is set up Memory speed and Multiplyer. set for the Cpu.

But the thing is, I never touched any of that, any of the multipliers or anything. :S I build computers and such, but I'm not very "in-dept" tech savvy about multpliers and such just yet.

And everything seems to be normal now. I cleared the CMOS and everything is running like it should. (For now).
I also had a lot of *cF* for my POSTS from my debug readout on my motherboard as well.

I'll probably make another thread in the forums again if the problem occurs. I do thank for the feedbacks.

When you cleared the bios, it forced it to se the memory speed to 800Mhz, and a cpu multiplyer of x4. it should report this in cpu z as x4 multi 800 mhz bus speed,if it does all is fine. Just a glitch in the bios.
