I tried searching for a similar topic, but was unable to find one. Booting takes around 5-10 minutes, before I am able to use the computer. Upon further inspection the CPU is going at 100% at 88all time even when sitting idle on the desktop. I have a 754 athlon 64 3200+(old I know), 2gb corsair ram, Maxtor 100gb 7200rpm, Antec NeoHE 550, 8800 GTS 320mb gpu and a MSI RS480m micro atx mobo. I am running XP home addition, hope that is enough info.

Not quite understanding your post, but I think you said that its always at 100% load and at 88degrees.

By 100% load do you mean like its like said to use 3ghz and is alwyas using 3ghz or do you mean teh CPU's are alwyas maxed out with work?

If theya re always maxed out and its at 88degrees, you might want to check the CPU and its fan for dust or to make sure its all secured down properly, putting CPU in with no fan is kinda like suicide.

Is it a new XP install? Sometimes svchost.exe takes all the cpu power when it tries to update a new install. i know this can also be a virus, but it doesn't have to be. Which program is using all the cpu in Task Manager?

when that happened to me my system was running 7 printer spools in the backround, i didn't kno how to fix it so i brought it sumwhere

I have a 754 sempron that did the exact same thing... most frustrating thing in the world.

If it's really word doing 100% I have no clue. If, by any chance, you've misread and it's scvhost.exe doing the 100% then here's the solution:
disable windows automatic updates.... and your done!

Hope it helps

Thanks for the help I was able to simply end the process and usage dropped to around 0-4% idle. Always great help as community on this board that is why I always come here.
