OK, so i dont even know what happened, suddenly my pc started acting weird, lagging, could not even start an app, i booted game and it took forever.

this was going on about 15-20 minutes, i tried everything(to find problem) then i checked temps and CPU was running at 100c, i shut it down waited a few seconds and started again, now it works fine, back to same temps.

I am using i9-9900k with some cheap AIO, temps are not great but not bad either, its been 3 years already never had overheating issue.

My question is what happened? Pump failed? because fans were moving. is it likely to happen again? i need to replace cooler? and if i could have damaged my CPU because it was running at 100c for like 15-20 minutes.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Case? Fan configuration?

PSU: make, model, wattage, age (3 years ?), condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

Re: "with some cheap AIO" Make and model?

Keep an eye on it. If you have a secondary cooler on hand, that would be swell.
AIOs have a finite lifespan and the majority aren't user serviceable. 3 years is a decent run.

Impossible, unless thermal monitoring was manually disabled in bios; it's enabled on mobos by default.
If it wasn't disabled, the PC would've shut off long before that, so I can conclude that core temperatures were constantly bouncing off the limit, which is safe; that would also mean the protections were working.
