[citation][nom]ericburnby[/nom]Hey thieves, still arguing I see?If you buy a game and don't like it then you deserve to get taken for your money.I used reviews as an example, but there are so many other ways to see if a game is worth it. Do any of you have friends? I always tried out games my friends bought (and they tried ones I bought) before buying a copy. You don't have friends? What about online communities? Every good game will have dozens of forums dedicated to it, which you'll probably visit for tips on gameplay anyway. Ever go to an Internet Cafe and watch people play? Or try a game yourself? Never been to a LAN party?Again, sorry to say crooks, but you have no valid excuses for wanting to "trial" a game. Unless you live alone in your mom's basement out in the sticks and don't have any freinds. In which case, I say pirate away as your life is pathetic so you might as well.[/citation]
do you like all of the same music as your friendss, do you like all of the same foods
do all of you have the same favorite movie of all time?
My friend thinks starcraft is the best game, I personally don't like it very much, to him it may have been worth what ever he paid for it, for me, you would have to pay me to play through the whole game. Does this mean starcraft is a bad game; certainly not,it just means that it is not a good game according to my personal preferences.
No review of entertainment content can truly objective and neutral as the content if a form of art. everyone has a different view on it. if you want to remain objective then all you can talk about is how it performs on certain systems and how many errors and crashes the game had.
PS another popular reason for piracy, is the escape from DRM. A DRM free game has many benefits. they are often better performing (many DRMed games run special memory checks during gameplay to ensure that the game is not pirated, this waste CPU cycles and uses valuable memory bandwidth)
just about all DRM free games can be install on anything that will hold it, including a blank disk (though it will take very long to load), If you have a fast flash drive, the DRM free game can be copied over to the flash drive then you can launch it on any PC, during the launch, the settings and savegame directories are automatically created)
Many DRM free games offer more reliability, no need to worry about the single player game freaking out because your internet connection dropped and it cant verify every second that you didn't suddenly become a pirate.
DRM is ONE of many things driving increased piracy. as the developers are artificially creating a system where the pirates copy is more stable, better performing and more functional than the legit/ paid, DRM filled copy.
If you look today, you don't see much news about music piracy, that is because some of the market has adapted their business model to satisfy the customer. DRM free music for $1 or less per track with the ability to listen to the entire song for free (eg pandora)
With service like that, buying the music is more worth my time then trying to pirate it as with very little work, I can discover new music, listen to it in it's entirety then buy it if I really like it.
Another bad aspect is the pricing of games. A big budget Hollywood film cost more to make than a high budget PC or console game, yet a movie can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of a PC or console game at release.
prices need to come down
