I cant defend nor suport pirating, but I have to say that in some countries like mine (venezuela) theres not many ways to get an "original" game form the store, just because there are not stores in this country that sells such games... You can go to any mall and buy for 5 cents a pirated game, knowing that its pirated but you cant do anything about... Also the pricing for original games in this country and other "in development" countries are so high, nobody can afford them.

Lets say as example: You earn $200 at month, you have to spent 100 only on food.. A game cost not $50 like in US, here theres people that sells them for $100-150, im converting the real values for your understanding.

I'm not rich, but also i cant spent half of salary for a game, which i will play 2 hours at day, lets say NFS 2 Unleashed.. And thats the situation of these countries. I actually try to mimize these acts, I play WOW and I can be able to pay monthly for it, so I do it.. Also Everytime I can I go to US and get some cool games, even if i have to spent $100 just cause they worth it... As BF3.. Im sorry but theres not many option for people from poor countries, hardware (a processor like athlon x4 455) here its cheaper than a game, and thats not our fault..

Look here:

Crysis 2 released 24th of March.
Skyrim 11th of November
Battlefield 3 25th of October

Why do you think is Crysis 2 the most pirated? 😛

What a bunch of CRAP!!!! Come on folks, you really think those numbers make a difference? If all the developers dropped PC altogether and focused only on consoles then the numbers would remain the same because the media and the price isn't the problem, its the quality of the games. You think that Battlefield is going to get any better by going to consoles? Hell no, not as long as EA is calling the shots and Dice is making it. The same can be said for any other developer out there. Skyrim is a great example of this because they made a great game, it cost the same as the others and it didnt even make the list, and its on both PC and Console. Batman was another good example of that as well, great game that didnt make the list. The big problem is Quality. Developers are not putting out good quality games anymore, and whats worse there are no demos to be found so of course folks are gonna download it. What would be nice to see is the actual numbers of those who pirated games and continued to play them versus ones that pirated games played them long enough to find out they suck and then stopped. That would give you some REAL data to work with. Dont get me wrong I dont pirate games, and I dont support piracy, but I have freinds that do and they download the games to see if they are worth anything and then buy them if they are, if they suck then of course they dont play them cause, well they suck!

And those that think that reading a review will give you all the info you need to find out wether or not you should buy a game, that is a load of crap. I have bought games based on reviews before and been burnt. Reviews are not reliable because ALL reviews, thats right I said ALL as in EVERY SINGLE REVIEW is biased. There is no way around it, everyone has they're favorites, for example, Serious Sam 3 BFE just came out and got mediocre reviews, but as far as I am concerned it should have gotten game of the year, I loved it, my wife loves it, its alot of fun. The review didnt tell me that though, because the reviews always refered to COD or BF3 as a comarison which is rediculoust because it isnt even the same type of game.

Bottom line is developers are gonna have to really start listening to their customers and improve the quality of their games. Spitting out the same kind of lame ass chocolate covered crap isnt going to cut it, and shifting to consoles isnt going to solve the problem it is simply going to transfer the problem from one media to the next.

Another thing, the whole Resturaunt thing you guys are using to to fight your cause, when was the last time you have been to a resturaunt? In a REAL resturaunt usually you order your food, you get your food, then you pay for your food. If there is a problem with your food, something you didnt like, or something that didnt make you feel real swift, usually you can talk to the manager and they dont make you pay for it. Hell even in fast food resturaunts, you can usually get your money back or a replacement if the food wasnt made right, or wasnt to your liking in some way or another, they arent going to let you walk out bad mouthing the company if they can help it. Funny how the game developers dont share that same view, if they did, they might have more money in their pocket, and less getting ripped off from them.

How about this, Steam offers a new kind of demo:
A 1-2 hour full-version license of a game for something like $2-3. After the hour is up, the license expires, and you have the option of unlocking the game for the full price minus the cost of the demo.
This would virtually negate the argument that it is okay to pirate for purposes of demoing a game with the intent to buy it if you like it.

I agree that games should offer some kind of demo, even if it has a small cost associated with it. The fact that the only way to try a game before buying it is to temporarily steal it is absurd. The only time I did this was for MW2, and I'm happy that I didn't buy the game. However, I would have jumped at the chance to play it for on hour or two for a couple bucks had that been an option.

This SUCKS! The Developers need to be PAID! I have purchased all of them and want the next one to come out Faster than 2 did. Ante Up FOOLS!

piracy is a service problem. Game developers treat their customers like shit and console players have no choice but take it and pc players pirate. What games do best on the pc? Typically MMO's. why? because everyone mmo developer knows they need to provide good service to their customers. Common sense that is unfortunately lacking in the majority of the industry.

[citation][nom]the_anonymous_1[/nom]The consumer's power in our capitalist society is to withhold their dollar, which they seem to be doing in record numbers. If publishers can't reconcile the fact that the internet allows us to look past their shiny new-packaging, wrapped around the same s---, then they deserve to lose money. It sounds harsh; but that's capitalism folks.http://www.theatlantic.com/busines [...] te/250967/[/citation]
Thank you for the well thought out and constructed comment!

I'd like to offer that the consumer's power not only in withholding their money, but in letting it go to those that deserve it. Pay a fair price for a quality product. If one foolishly lets go of their money on an inferior product, it is not the games fault, but that of the consumer.

If reviews do not give gamers enough info about whether they may be interested in a game or not, then they either can't read or need to stop looking at paid reviews. There are hundreds of honest sources out there that can tell you 95% of what you need to know, and blaming whatever you didn't find in that last 5% for making the game not worth it is usually being too picky.

You are all thieves. The fact I get thumbed down so fast just proves I've struck a nerve.

Please, that "trial" excuse is lame. It's like stealing a car because you need to get somehwere. There are countless resources (reviews) on all popular games that any person with half a brain can figure out if a game is something they like before buying it. Even Youtube is chock full of actual gameplay videos, many in HD.

Suck it, crooks. You have no valid reason to "trial" (steal) a game. You're just looking to justify your theft.

crysis 1 was a great game... say whatever you want but the sandbox play, and the physics gives you a lot A LOT of choices of how to play the game... Im not a FPS gamer... but I have passed crysis 1 like 5 times... and I Enjoy it a lot... yeah it have its glitches... but a pretty good game... I cant say The same about crysis 2... is anoyying an repetitive... I miss the choices... and specially I miss to chop down the trees part by part 😛

Once again Reviews are not a reliable source of info for people to base wether or not they should buy a game on. I dont care how "honest" or "unbias" they claim to be, they are always going to be bias because the person playing the game is a critic, not your ordinary average everyday gamer. Wether the review is paid or not, you will never get the info you are seeking without playing a game. Case in point, World of Warcraft. I have never seen a bad review about World of Warcraft, gamers hail it as the MMO to end all MMOs. You know what, I hate it! I have played trials and demos of it, I even got a giftcopy from blizzard that I never use, I cannot stand that game. Now if I were to have read all the reviews and believed all the hype about it, I would have bought it when it first came out and been very dissapointed and felt ripped off. Does that sound like the reviews would have helped me any? I had a similar experience with BF3, I tested BF3 and the beta was pretty good, but when I got the final product it was very dissapointing, so much unnecessary extra crap that I paid 60 bucks for. But you read the reviews and they say its a winner. The list goes on and on, and that also works in reverse too. Alot of reviews give crap ratings to games that IMO are great. AVP, Serious Sam 3, Dead Island, all got lame reviews and were a hell of alot of fun.

Bottom line is a review will never take the place of a demo, because the person reviewing the game isnt you! I am in no way saying that pirating is ok, because I believe that it isnt, but the developers aren't trying very hard to fix the problem when the ignore their customers, give shitty or no support, and put out piss poor quality games.

no you got thumbs down cuz your retarded.. even a car i can rent before i buy and test drive before i buy.. get a new analagy that works for you and not me :) your video and review bs is also just that bs.. unless its me actualy playing the game it doesnt tell me crap about the game i need to know... like if its going to be any good... i dont know if anything is going to be something im going to like before i buy it unless i have used it ffs anyone who says otherwise apperantly has a time machine and already did this.. most you can do is make a guess on what others say and what the box says.. im not whilling to spend money on a guess.

How many people that could AFFORD to buy Skyrim bought it? Hasn;t the game already reached 15 milion copies?

My thoughts of this successful record sale phenomenon ....

A game that has already lasted more than 100 hours of gameplay for me and still have so much to do in the main plot.
Very few game breaking bugs for such a huge game.
Awesome price... Awesome price.......

Then again..... did i buy the game from the start? NO!!!!!! Why? Because they released that crap of a game called Rage.. Crap as in short gameplay, poor content and indeed gamebreaking problems that were attributed to ATI/NVIDIA drivers.... ( i solved it through the command line tampering for some strange reason) I knew Skyrim would not disappoint me but i had to be sure first...... The game came with the right price as well.

Crysis2 did not come with the right price... Nice graphics, for me the gameplay, i still admit, was not the crappy one people claim it to be.... waited for the DX11 patch only to see that it was a broken patch that was never fixed...... (the notorious load previous saved game problem).

Before you go on and blame piracy for what the PC gaming industry is suffering just name those games that leave such a good impression on people that will buy the second installment without second thought.... I did not for skyrim but will do for Borderlands2.

I am an active subscriber of an mmorpg. These games last for years now weeks. Why are people so glad to pay their initial purchase and their monthly subscription? Is the content boring? Do they run through the content in days? Why are there so many private servers of mmorpg games, like AION for example, that sport thousands if people playing it and actively paying quite a bit on "donations" to that game? They love it.

The person who posted about his own country general economic problem (this extends to many countries) gave you a very clear idea about people who are unable to buy a product that costs so high because they have no money. No "soft" policy from software companies on that matter. Wasn't it Lineage2 that sold for 45 dollars years ago, but 5 dollars only in certain poor Asiatic countries?

Add them altogether and you have a game that fails the charts. Once again.... did Skyrim fail the charts? No. Was Skyrim pirated? Yes. Quite many people are simply unable to afford it. Those who could bought it.

I do not really care if software developers get paid before a game is released. That is another issue. I care that what i buy and spend my VALUABLE money on, is worth the money i spend on.

And for the person that wrote about reading the reviews on the net before buying a game.... good for you accepting other people's decision on what makes something worth buying. Allow others to have a more critical mind. This critical mind has become a very distrusting one over the years. After all the failures we have spent our money on people are really careful at what they buy.

the problem is that every developer thinks they are making a $60 game. when they aren't. crysis 2 was a $15 game, mw3 was a $18 game, bf3 was a $30 game. skyrim on the otherhand was worth $50.

A lot of people pirate so they can demo the game, if they are really into it and want to play it through, then good people will buy it or buy it when they have the money.

Hey thieves, still arguing I see?

If you buy a game and don't like it then you deserve to get taken for your money.

I used reviews as an example, but there are so many other ways to see if a game is worth it. Do any of you have friends? I always tried out games my friends bought (and they tried ones I bought) before buying a copy. You don't have friends? What about online communities? Every good game will have dozens of forums dedicated to it, which you'll probably visit for tips on gameplay anyway. Ever go to an Internet Cafe and watch people play? Or try a game yourself? Never been to a LAN party?

Again, sorry to say crooks, but you have no valid excuses for wanting to "trial" a game. Unless you live alone in your mom's basement out in the sticks and don't have any freinds. In which case, I say pirate away as your life is pathetic so you might as well.

Clearly, you don't read this thread from the first page :non: and you don't know what you're saying and what the others saying :pfff: . Read from the first page before bashing other people out.

Interestingly, the free CryEngine Software Development Kit, which lets you mod Crysis 2 or even make complete games from scratch, has been downloaded over a million times. So while it my be the most pirated game of the year, it may also be the most free and legally downloaded game engine also:

do you like all of the same music as your friendss, do you like all of the same foods

do all of you have the same favorite movie of all time?

My friend thinks starcraft is the best game, I personally don't like it very much, to him it may have been worth what ever he paid for it, for me, you would have to pay me to play through the whole game. Does this mean starcraft is a bad game; certainly not,it just means that it is not a good game according to my personal preferences.

No review of entertainment content can truly objective and neutral as the content if a form of art. everyone has a different view on it. if you want to remain objective then all you can talk about is how it performs on certain systems and how many errors and crashes the game had.

PS another popular reason for piracy, is the escape from DRM. A DRM free game has many benefits. they are often better performing (many DRMed games run special memory checks during gameplay to ensure that the game is not pirated, this waste CPU cycles and uses valuable memory bandwidth)

just about all DRM free games can be install on anything that will hold it, including a blank disk (though it will take very long to load), If you have a fast flash drive, the DRM free game can be copied over to the flash drive then you can launch it on any PC, during the launch, the settings and savegame directories are automatically created)

Many DRM free games offer more reliability, no need to worry about the single player game freaking out because your internet connection dropped and it cant verify every second that you didn't suddenly become a pirate.

DRM is ONE of many things driving increased piracy. as the developers are artificially creating a system where the pirates copy is more stable, better performing and more functional than the legit/ paid, DRM filled copy.

If you look today, you don't see much news about music piracy, that is because some of the market has adapted their business model to satisfy the customer. DRM free music for $1 or less per track with the ability to listen to the entire song for free (eg pandora)

With service like that, buying the music is more worth my time then trying to pirate it as with very little work, I can discover new music, listen to it in it's entirety then buy it if I really like it.

Another bad aspect is the pricing of games. A big budget Hollywood film cost more to make than a high budget PC or console game, yet a movie can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of a PC or console game at release.

prices need to come down

I know of people who will pirate a game to see if they like it. If they do, they buy it. If not, they remove it and never touch it again.

To me.. morally speaking, I don't see much wrong with that

btw you cant really trust reviews on the internet anymore since companies pay PR firms to troll forums and review sites posting fake reviews for their products. You cant trust anything anymore, you just have to try it yourself. Games used to ship with demo's a long time ago. What ever happened to that? They realized people were still willing to pay $50 anyway and "hope for the best".

LOL CrysisLOL,

Steam just so happens to have DEMO's :) I love Steam and thank GOD they are here. I saved so much money buying games on Sale, getting Demo's and also get to Beta upcoming Games. All through the ease of one program.
