I hope you don't mind my input.

You're good on GPU for all intents and purposes, if you plan to stick with 1080p or below. It is especially solid at 1680x1050. That particular card you have is excellent, actually. Very good upper-mid range card that I don't see you getting the most out of with your current CPU. I would recommend an upgrade at CPU first and foremost. Just that alone would be great.

Shouldn't you have the 64bit disc already? I thought Windows came with both...

BTW, I draw wife-aggro about my hobby as well. "It's not needed." "Grow up." "You have enough toys."

Love your input, bro. Yeah I won't be upgrading my card for a while - it was my one selfish expenditure for this year, I think. Very pleased with it.

I downloaded the W7Pro Upgrade as a fresh install when I started school again - 30USD :pt1cable: I've got a copy of XP, so I can do the same thing again this fall with the 64-bit version if I wanted.

Aw, "grow up" is a little harsh. And is that an Army of Two reference? Awesome. :sol:

If you want to stay with AMD the 965 Black or 960T would go great with a 6870.

Yeah, the wife can be harsh, but I will never be whooped. I am game whooped! Please, sweet game. Don't go away!

Funnily enough, my wife jokes that if my computer had a ...you know... I wouldn't need her. True story!

Nah, I'm breaking up with AMD. I was looking for a 95w Deneb for a while, but I bought the 6870 instead. And Sandy Bridge vs. Bulldozer sealed the deal for me.

Also, that's hilarious.

Crysis 2 observation: does anyone else seriously hate the Radio Free Manhattan guy? Everytime I hear a radio in-game I have to stop whatever I'm doing and find it so I can shoot it to death. Good thing the directional audio works so well.

"They're here to put that JACK BOOT IN!" WTF are you talking about? WTF is a jackboot?!? Shut up!!! Have a JAW to the face!

LOL

Yeah, I know what you mean. I hate that damn racket.

So you are going with the sandy bridge? Good choice.

The i5 2500k or even the i3 2100 would be excellent for your GPU. I would also recommend the z68 chipset.

Something in the Blackfire 2 mod must cull the water because it no longer causes lags unless I'm looking directly at it, and 10m away or less :)

Blackfire 2 mod impressions:
- Loving the bright sunny days.
- The high-contrast is cool, but it makes the dark areas too dark, and your "eyes" don't adjust in the areas that are too bright. Reminds me of BF3, but the effect is less subtle. I'm thinking this could be fixed by an r_eyeadaptation command...
- 80 FOV is way too fish-eye for me. I turn it down to 65 at most.
- Quality mod's DOF is interesting, but I wouldn't play with it turned on.
- I'm not super-crazy about the slight mouse-smoothing, but it's okay.
- Capping the framerate at 40 smooths me out even more. (Rarely goes above that, and often drops down to 20...)

Can't wait for MaLDo's update! It's looking incredible :ouch:

*EDIT
Dangit, why don't any other console commands work? Do they have to be unlocked individually? FOV, fps cap, and HDRlevel work, but nothing else does... I want to mess with HDRBrightthreshold and EyeAdaptiation settings. Con_restricted isn't recognized either. 🙁

*EDIT EDIT
I take it back! Blackfire looks incredible after a few levels! Now that I've gotten used to the brightness, it really does add a special touch :)
I was so amped before I got Crysis 2 in Jan - I was like "I'm going to be playing the best-looking-game in the world on its highest settings!" It wasn't til MaLDo + Blackfire that I finally feel like that. :sol:

Gotta admit - I miss this thread.

How are you guys doing? Everyone enjoying MaLDoHD and Blackfire? Mal, you enjoying Crysis and Warhead?

I just finished Crysis 2 again, and had a blast. Gonna try the hardest difficulty next. Been playing Blacklight: Retribution, too - pretty fun, and no camping! Also, I've been capping the framerate in each of my games with Afterburner's tool. (For overall smoothness and better temps - I can put my side-panel back on my case now!) Vsync @ 30fps is a nice option in some games.

Made a compilation video of some modded C2 gameplay on my PC if anyone's interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2sEh-JB2cs

You seem to be rocking with 670s in SLi. How are they?

I've just had to RMA one of the cards, which is a ball ache 🙁

but other than that they're very good. I was going to go for a 690 but I decided to save some cash and go for 670 SLi which is very similar in performance.

Okay this has nothing to do with Crysis, but I just watched the new Tomb Raider trailer, something I was excited about last year when they showed the teaser, and all I can think is "wow that looks like a Playstation 2 game..."

Looks like a great game, but can we please get some decent character and object models up in here?!? Guess I'm spoilt.

I'll be waiting for you to send me your Dell...
let me know when tracking is available... 😉

cheers.
Hah, I'll be taking the good stuff out of it and leaving it pretty much the way I bought it. Stock plus 2 GB Ram and the Athlon II X2 instead of the LE-1660. Should get about $200 for it. Selling the single-core online - and my HD 5670 for nearly the price I bought it. 😀

If you really want an exhausted little HTPC, let me know 😛

And what is wrong with Playstation 2?

Looks better than many of todays games IMO:

Oh it's great for what it is - in fact it's my favorite console to date. Mine's currently gathering dust by my TV, though. I was just disappointed in the 6-8 year-old-looking models shown in the trailer...

It is breathtaking if you can get it to work right. And there doesn't seem to be much of a hit performance wise (provided your CPU is clocked high enough).
