Yeah, even if Prophet is now the dominant personality, that had better be Alcatraz's body.

@Gothams Finest - Totally agree - this is Crysis 2.5. But that's okay - glad we know what we're getting into this far out.

He did not. He explains at the end of Crysis 2 single player campaign that the link was stronger than he realized.

I believe Prophet became linked in some sort of alien cyberworld, which allowed him to continue to be able to communicate with you to the end.

Btw, did you ever go 3D and play Crysis 2?

I am about to. Still trying to make a decision on a monitor.

cable management with the Antec 300 Illusion is very difficult.. :fou:
especially with SLi and multiple HDD's
a modular power supply doesn't really help when you have all connections in play..

Going off topic is becoming a nasty habit of yours isn't it.

Well, this thread has been across 9 pages and several different games to be discussed. I think it's hardly fair to fault someone for going off topic at this point, when the thread has been off topic and back on track several times now.

Finally checked out all that E3 stuff. Not sure what I think about Crysis 3 or Dead Space 3. Tomb Raider looks like they're trying to make a female Nathan Drake/Uncharted. Might be ok. XCOM looks neat, although the graphics are less than impressive right now.

I think I'm most looking forward to Far Cry 3 from the E3 trailers I saw. Didn't see any BioShock Infinity coverage but that's another game I really want to play.

Yeah I haven't had time to view all the trailers either... I do like Crysis 3, though there is room for improvement. Far Cry 3 looks amazing, and Tomb Raider looks like the Hunger Games. Not that that's a bad thing.

Finally - I think Quantic Dream has NAILED in-game acting. The environment isn't that impressive, considering it's running on current-gen hardware, but the character models are good, and their faces are INCREDIBLE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NEup8y0g-Q&feature=related

(Slightly back on topic...) I can not wait for MaLDo's newest release! 94% done, and looking incredible: http://maldotex.blogspot.com Also, realized why Crytek doesn't/can't endorse him and his mod directly - he has too many unlicenced brands in the mod. Adds to the immersion for sure, but now I get why there's no direct acknowledgement from them. (Even though he's in frequent contact with them, and I'm sure they've learned from him and even applied some of that to Crysis 3 already.)

Is Watch Dogs the Hong Kong gang one or the futuristic assassin one?

The assassin one looks neat.

And as for all the Crysis 1 and 2 mods, I really hope they have 1gb versions for those of us on older tech. I hate exceeding my 1gb of VRAM as it just gets so annoying when it stutters for VRAM swaps.

I thought the asian gang one was Sleeping Dogs. Watch Dogs was something else iirc.

Watch Dogs looks good.

I thought they made Watch Dogs look too easy, but I guess it might be later in the game. I think it would be more fun to have to build up a cool arsenal of tech gadgets to do all that hacking and stuff. It's like in Batman AC vs AA, in AA you start with very little and have to find/unlock new equipment, but in AC they just drop it in for you right at the start and I found it was kind of silly. Lost interest a little too fast.

Okay....I've decided to rant like an old man; sitting on his front porch and shaking his fist at the world.

First-person shooters are becoming more dumbed down with every new game released. Controller-friendly, over-scripted, non-interactive, hand-holding garbage.

These games are for children. Children like to feel bad-assed, so they basically need to be given a huge advantage over the enemy. They don't enjoy games where they need to develop skill and strategy.

You know why I like to play STALKER? Because when an NPC walks around the corner and shoots you......you die. Such a simple concept. You have to use cover. You have to listen to the footsteps of approaching NPCs, and sometimes you may even try to avoid confrontations. You are rewarded for thinking and playing in a realistic manner.

But according to that video, in Crysis3, a chopper can come in with 30mm cannons blazing 100 rounds PER SECOND and the player somehow survives being shot with hundreds of rounds. "Oh!! I'm so bad-assed!!" say all the children as they watch the next rendered cut-scene. What else do we see in the trailers? Oh...just a bunch of controller-friendly hip-shooting while standing out in the wide-open as dozens of utterly ignorant NPC's fire (apparently) aimlessly all around you. How fun.

You know what I want? I want SMART, FAST, ACCURATE enemy NPC's. I want guys who creep up behind me and slit my throat. I want NPC's that can run as fast as I can and use cover to their advantage. I don't want advantages.....I want CHALLENGE. That's what creates real feelings of tension and excitement in a game - going into a situation where the odds are against you, and using your skill and your intellect to pull through.

Alright, I guess I'm done........get off my lawn. 😉

I think you're giving video games and FPS games in particular far too much credit to insinuate that there are any non-dumbed down FPS games. None of them are incredibly deep. The deepest FPS games #1 depth ends up being RPG-esque elements (like managing your character in the world of Stalker).

Beyond that, they're video games. They're ALLLLLL made for children. Every single one is made to appeal to things that teenagers find appealing. If you like video games, that is fine. That means that you enjoy something that is otherwise designed for children. And if you're honest with yourself, you probably enjoy games in a lot different aspect than you did when you were younger. I know I certainly do. As fun as new things are, my favorite thing of all about video games is how they remind me of when I was young and the entire concept of video games itself was new.

If you don't feel the same then I truly pity you, because the idea of video games themselves must be getting incredibly played out for you =(. God knows, almost every game is entirely derivative these days (and by these days I mean for over the last decade and then some).

Well I disagree. A lot of games are designed for the grade 7-12 kids because they're the ones with nothing better to do/spend money on.

But that's not at all the same as saying all games are made for children. Would you say The Witcher (1 or 2) was designed for children? For teens?

Obviously older people can find a lot of the same things fun and interesting as a younger audience, like good combat and explosions. But games also can have themes that are very relevant to adults. Young players might enjoy the game too, but I'd bet a lot of the nuances of the story go over their head.

Regardless, asking for a more difficult game is quite very reasonable. Young players can enjoy that too, but for some reason a lot of developers seem to think nobody could possibly posses any skill or fortitude any more.

FPS games are definitely not getting any more... mature, content wise (I don't mean blood, sex, and language). STALKER is probably one of the most mature shooters I've ever played. I don't really like games based only on gameplay any more, I need more to bring me into it, so many modern shooters have been skipped over for me. I think this is basically his complaint, it's certainly mine. The FPS genre can be so amazing for immersion and story and all kinds of things, but so often it's just a mindless action romp. Now excuse me while I go play Metro 2033 for the umpteenth time =P

Yes. Yes they are. Just because the game has tits and the R-rated depiction of sexual intercourse, doesn't make it adult. Neither does the swearing. You could say that the storyline is of high quality for a game, but it's nothing beyond the grasp of a 15 year old. The tits, violence and boning are all firmly within the grasp of a 15 year old. It's their favorite part.

I'm merely expressing what I want out of a game....there is no need to pity me. 😉

We get glimpses of what is possible when game developers take a more mature approach to story and gameplay (STALKER, Metro2033...even FarCry2.)

Is there anything in my post that you WOULDN'T want in a game? Do you not want smarter, more challenging AI? A great, immersive story that draws you in like a good book? Shooting and movement mechanics that reward skill instead of mindless run-n-gun blasting?

All those things are possible with the level of development technology available......I guess the real problem is convincing the financers that there is a big enough market to pursue it. We just saw the STALKER IP collapse....so perhaps not.

Just because it isn't prevalent doesn't mean I shouldn't want it. 😉

So? Was The Count of Monte Cristo written for teens? Because I read that years ago and loved it.

I know plenty of games are aiming at the teens, like DNF and Halo and Gears of War. And while young people can easily enjoy the Witcher, that doesn't mean it was designed for them.

I agree with wolfram. (A fellow Metro addict I see [:lutfij:3])

There are plenty of games aimed at adults.

We can all agree to disagree then. To me, labeling games as adult has always been the result of self-aggrandizing gamers. It's not even a complimentary moniker. So too, I have a hard time finding "kiddie" and the inherently negative tone which it's used regarding games to be a relevant critique at all.
