DDR problem on intel x86

I read THG new article about VIA DDR solution for intel P-III.
And I believe the problem here is VIA can't make a good chipset.

I read THG article about VIA PC133 vs. Intel PC100 solution.
And found out that VIA 133 is EQUAL to Intel 100.
And intel 133 is beating VIA 133.

So, it's normal if VIA 266 EQUAL to Intel 133.
Because VIA sucksss.... not fast enough to make a good chipset.

Via sucks it takes DDR to bet the i815. guess what it could not beat the 440bx.

Exactly. VIA sucks. That's all that really needs to be said. :)

I'm sure that if Intel had made a DDR chipset, then we'd see that 0-10% increase over the i815 to match the increase in performance that the Athlon gets from it.

But hey, who really cares? Neither the P3 nor the Athlon were really designed for a high memory bandwidth anyway.

The true test will be future products from both AMD and Intel. And not just their processors, but also their chipsets.

What I'd like to see is someone invent an 'advanced' north bridge (or even N and S combined into 1 chip) that actually runs faster than just the system clock so that it can do weird and cool stuff with the CPU. True, it'd be more expensive and it might even need a heat sink (probably won't need a fan though). But could you imagine the data routing possabilities with something like that? Heck, you could severely unstress the CPU and leave it to do JUST calculating.

Then again, maybe I'm insane.
