Hi,

My second N64 died tonight and I kind of hate it.

I had a game in, had the console turned on, plugged a controller into
the second port- the TV screen went staticky, the audio went "Pshhhh"
for about a half second, then a black screen.

I've used this controller in the past with no trouble, it's quite a few
years old, but I suppose the fact that the game died when I plugged it
in means I'm not going to use it anymore.. but what can die in a 64 due
to a faulty controller?

Many thanks for any help I can get with this,

John

As a general guideline, never plug anything into a game console after
it is already turned on. I never actually killed a console like this,
but I have erased entire memory cards that way.

BTW, double check the system memory expansion (or jumper pack if no
expansion has been installed). If it is just a little loose the system
won't work.

Another issue can be heat. The N64 isn't as sensitive as some other
consoles, but if the unit was sitting on a soft surface (carpet,
blanket, etc.) then the vents on the underside may have been blocked,
resulting in overheating and possible death.
