defragmenting

hi all. my HDD is fragmented to 23 percents. i keep defragmenting it but it sticks at 6 percents and tells me that it's defragmented. it's annoying because it's my windows partition. What can i do?

Most likely you have some files that are in use while defragmenting that can not be moved. First try and using task manager to end every task you can. If you get almost everything closed, you should be able to defragment pretty much everything.

That should get it, also a third party defragmenter that can run before windows starts up may also help too. I have used O&O Defragmenter in the past, and it works pretty good. Not sure that it is worth paying for, as the Windows defragmenter works well.

If you have a drive that is over 5400rpm don't bother defraging it unless it is like 80% fragmented or something crazy like that. Drives that are 7200rpm and over have fast enough access times to make defraging not worth the time and if anything it may be shortening the life of the drive.

ok thx. i don t see any real differences when it 's fragmentended at 40 % or 60%. thx man
