Yes, it would help. Would it be as good as a T-bird 1.2ghz with the same card? No. But I'd say $150 would give you a nice boost over that TNT card.

Vid card good. While you won't see the full potential of the card, you'll see enough to be pleased. As a historical reference, I had a k62-400 until fairly recently. I borrowed a friend's savage4 for a little while, fairly comparable. Picked up a geforce256, similar to geforce2mx, excellent. Twice the performance, even on the old system. Now I run a duron600@900. Double that performance. For kicks I tested things out underclocked @ 500 mHz. Proportionately, the jump from k62-400 to duron 500 yielded as great, perhaps slightly greater gain, as the jump from 5 hundred to 9. That points to where the performance ceiling lies, and the impact it has. So don't buy an Ultra. But don't be afraid of a really good card. While it may now be limited, it should have enough room to give you enjoyable performance. It sounds like you have chosen a good upgrade strategy.

I'm surprised you would even consider a Radeon in a K6-2 system. i would think that would be asking for compatibility problems... I haven't tried it, but I have seen some awful things about ATI compatibility with AMD systems...

I use a Geforce2 MX in my K6-2+ system. works good. You may also wish to spend a couple bucks on a K6-2+ processor(75 US plus shipping at VegaPC.com). Tom has a great article on the K6-2+ chip that you may find useful if you haven't looked at it already...

First of the ATI has superior 2d image not 3d. Also, for an older socket seven system the gforce mx is less likely to cause compatability issues

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!

Yes it would be overkill for yor right now but it would go nicely into a new syartem when you had cash to build it. Myself I would have opted for a new mobo cpu before the vid card. alot depends on your budget, how long untill you will be ready to spend even more cash and how long you want to get buy with what you have now.

I would go for the GTS myself. You will get a significant performance increase on current games and even more on future ones that use the onboard T&L engine. So even if you can't upgrade that cpu/mobo soon you can still play the latest and greatest. Good Luck on whatever you decide and long live the computer nerd!!!
