[SOLVED] Dell Memory Upgrade - OEM vs Crucial

I was looking at memory upgrades for my Dell XPS 8940.

A 16 GB stick from Dell is $181.00.

What appears to be a comparable 16 GB stick from Crucial is $57.99.

Am I missing something here?

Is there some difference that I'm not aware of?

I realize that you expect a markup from an OEM label, but more than 3x the price seems ridiculous.

In general, unless purchasing memory at the time of purchase, you should not buy memory from the OEMs, like Dell. They will nearly always be more expensive than other retailers.

That being said, for best performance, you should install matched memory in your system (memory usually sold in pairs for most consumers for a reason). Mixing makes/models can produce undesired results.

The Dell stick that is already in there is Hynix.

Typically with the DDR3 systems I search used. This will be a bit new for that. I also recommend just buying a match set.
