Yes that is a BTX capable case and there are others available, problem would be that the Dell BTX motherboard does not follow the true BTX standard.
The motherboard mounting holes will not line up.

I actually thought about just saying screw it and buy a small upgrade Motherboard ATX and a new PSU so i can get a new casing , even though i don't do graphics design or anything artsy YET i am going to school for it but thats besides the point i hate the poor upgrade capabilities of my dell and would like to switch out before i put anymore into the xps 400 btw delluser would this soundcard fit into my current XPS 400 dell case keep in mind that i bought the 9800 GT 512 mb graphic card which is installed already(big damn graphic card)

theres a deal currently at newegg that if i buy fatal1ty gaming headset (which i was planning to already) you get that sound card 50 dollars off so i would be paying like $124.99 for both

It will work in the 1x slot above the video card ( if it's not covered by the video card ) or the 4x slot ( 2 slots down from the video )
Keep in mind the fact that you will be able to migrate the upgrades you are making into a homebuild once you decide to do it.

Yes i definately should be able to , the xps 400 is a midsize tower case right? cause i plan to upgrade to a Full tower

i got a question with my gt 9800. it only lets me go to 1300 for resoultion and says it should go into the 2000. is that cause im using vga?

Wow this thread has seen alot of action lately.
@ thragnoth, yes it's a mid tower

@ weston, What monitor are you using ?
The card will only allow you to go as high as the monitor's native resolution.

yeah i figured it out. im using a 37 inch 1080i monitor. pretty sweet. just ordered a new case. 3 fans and some cold cathodes. cant wait!!!

thanks again for the suggestion. I got the psu last week and installed it. was a lot of cable juggling and stuffing but got it installed just fine. Seeing that I have all these SATA power connectors and I have an extra SATA drive sitting around I am thinking of buying a SATA controller. would you have any recommendations for this as well? I have an empty hdd slot at the bottom and could mount one at the top front (5 1/2" bay).

thanks again

I have a Dell XPS 400 with a stock 375W PSU, the Graphics Card im getting is a PNY Verto 9800GT 1GB GDDR3 Memory, was wonderign if the PSU can handle it, its probably already been answered but i want clarification before i plug this into my computer and possibly blow up my PSU. On a video review i watched it sayd to have atleast a 450W psu minimum. Can i get info please?

Thanks

Heres the Card in Question

if you read here and here and here it should be possible. Some of these are mixed though. My personal experience with a Sapphire HD 3870 (512MB, GDDR4) is mixed also. The box said psu needs to be >400W. I was able to install it with the stock 375W psu and the system booted fine and was running under normal conditions. However, as soon as I strained the graphics card the system would blue screen and lock. I then purchased a psu upgrade (500W) and now everything is fine even under extreme cpu and gpu load.

According to the above posts you should be fine. If not you can purchase a psu upgrade for $40-60.

yes your set up will run. i have a pny 9800 gt overclocked to 720mhz and is running strong. i now however have a 700w powersuply and getting ready for a 2nd card. just need to wait for the new mobo. case got here today!! so excited!!!! wish me luck

weston, it is not clear whether your 9800 is running ok with the stock 375W psu. You were running it without a problem on the 375W dell psu but then later decided to switch to a 700W psu, do understand this correctly?

well all i usually play is World of Warcraft on this machine and some occasional Left 4 Dead so WoW cant be that intensive on a graphics card like that i wouldnt think right?

i also have the A07 BIOS update its workign fine now problems at all so now i want to find out if it will run WoW with out blue screening on me, because i also stream live on th web idk if that affects the GPU or not tho

well, you certainly won't break it. It either won't start, or will be unstable or will run just fine.

recently i have purchased 3 gb of ram and currently using 2 of the 3 cause im using 2 GB and 2 512mb , installed them worked perfectly fine this had been going on for about a month until finally i brought a new desk , set it up and after i hooked up my pc to the new desk and turned it back on i recieved a blue screen , so i restarted my pc, it came up again ( this time i read it) 0x00000074 which is an error message for the memory chips being damage, opened up the case looked at them and nothing was wrong with them no burns, bends or any other damage CLEAN AS A WHISTLE , called dell and of course dell is useless as booger trying to kill an elephant basically they told me the same *** i already knew.... my memory card is damaged and since I didn't have an warranty with them anymore ,which expired that day , he wanted me to pay 210 dollars to renew it for a year.... mmm renew service to replace one part that cost about 10 dollars each? no ty so he then told me well he could pass me to the tech support but it would cost me 50 dollars!!! for them to answer one question... so i turn to you guys someone please help me!

Memory damage usually isn't visible ( although I have seen melted labels before )
One thing to look for is blown caps on the motherboard, if there are none;
Like you said " $10 each " get a couple of sticks.

it's not clear to me from your message if you tried the below. so, apologies if I assumed incorrectly.

most memory companies offer lifetime warranty - certainly if you bought name brand.
Pull out all you mem modules and put only one back in, reboot and continue until you find the culprit. If it doesn't boot with any of them, not even the one you didn't use yet, it's the board probably.
Once you get it to post and are able to go into bios you may want to check the modules with a mem test.
Use something like Hiren's Boot CD -> http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd
if you are lucky and find that one of them is bad, check companies website for return policy and procedures (your 512 sticks are likely Infinion - don't even try to get a replacement if these are bad - not worth it; and the other ones you know what you bought new 😉 )
