well, according to the card's specs I'd say you need to upgrade if you have the stock 375W psu. 630W minimum is pretty specific. In my case it asked for a minimum of 400W psu and I got it barely to run with the 375W and therefore switched to a 500W.

how did you fit a dual-slot card under that cpu cooler? looks impossible in my xps 400

how did you get a dual slot card to fit under the annyoing HUGE stock cooler, looks like you could only put a single slot card under it

Dell- I know it has been a while since you replied..hoping to get some advice.

Just installed a BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512 card into my Dell XPS 400. I was playing Call of Duty 4 for about 3 hours when all the sudden....blank screen. Computer was still running, but not more video (video light on 17" flat screen still green).

Turned computer off...came right back up. 2 hours later...same thing. After reboot...worked fine again.

Is this a PSU issue? From all th posts I have read, it would seen the stock 375 PSU should handle this just fine, but it appears to be a problem going into some idle mode or something.

Any advice?

thanks

I've been running a 9800 GTX+ 512MB PCIe 2.0 on my xps 400 since December and hadn't had any problems until yesterday when my stock psu died. I attribute the death more to the fact I never turn my computer off and push it fairly hard though. Not sure if the overclocked edition requires more power then the (+) version either. I wouldn't bother with the over clocked version unless you plan to stick it in a better rig eventually. The regular 9800 GTX gives the processors and board more then it can handle resulting in bottleneck. So you wont see any improvement in the OC'd and I imagine it will run hotter and possibly die sooner.

so what kind of power supply do i need to be able to run my new xfx 9800 geforce GT 512MB on my computer witch is a xps 400 any help

I reserched around and some ppl said you can install other ps's in dells, some other ppl said you can't. I have a xps 400 installed a 9800gtx+ ran it for a few days with dell factory ps of 375 ran fine a lil lag sometimes. I came across a pic of a coasir I think 450w atx ps installed in a xps dell. I also came across a couple of guys saying any atx ps will it into xps 400. So, I purchased a cosair tx850w atx ps, now I know for sure that it's a btx box. I checked with everest ultimate, plus I heard it around the net. I installed the atx 850w ps with no issues it fits fine. It is a little longer than the dell ps, but it doesn't effect anything. I have also posted a link of the atx ps in my xps dell 400. This would lead me to the conclusion that you can fit and atx ps in a dell xps 400. Hope this helps ppl, I was helped around the net too. However, after hours of searching there was no certain answer aside from actully seeing a pic of a atx ps in a dell xps 420 I think. So, I made the dive no issues.

I ran the 9800gtx+ for a about 3 days on the 375 ps lil lag and ran dual screen the entire time> once I installed the larger ps I def got better screen images. I played RA3 maxed out 100% no lag super quick movement. I played the game before maxed out the 375 ps but when I installed the new ps it was a big difference. You can get by with the 375 ps but it's just that....getting by. You won't see the top performance of card untill you upgrade the ps.

i have a question i have a dell xps 400 and i bought a new video card for it. GeForce 9400 gt requires a 300 watt power supply or more. now im not to good wid computers but about a week after i bought the card and installed it my computer started to lose display and sound wall it was running. then the fan on the card turned off permanently. so i reinstall the old one and it works fine. i need to know if i definitely need to know if i gota up the power supply.

Sounds like the card went, if you read the thread you would see that cards that require much more power are used with the stock 375 watt psu.

thnx for the info . i want to build my own computer and i found a case i like(COOLER MASTER HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP Black Steel + Plastic and Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case) and i wanted to know if u could recomend a mother board, processor, power supply and so on. i play games like wow and call of duty i i like to multitask with two monitors. i would like to keeps the total price around 800 to $1000. so if u could recomend like video cards and stuff that would be great.

just another question. i put the old graphics card back in my dell and it worked but the monitor started shutting off again. so i did the system restore and restored it to about a month ago and that work for a little but i had a house fand blowing on it incase. i took the fan off and the monitor started shutting off again. im wondering if that new video card i bought screwed up my computer?

please help

umm if we could like exchange like email or something easier than this that would be cool thnx.

Ah so what do you think the most powerful graphics card is? note I have not performed any upgrades on the dell, just customized it a little when dell sent it. 😛

Would you think 9800 GTX with a single pin work if not this one?

My CPU is the 2.8 ghz PentiumD will that be fine for the computer.

Which one would you suggest out of the two? How much memory is on the cards?

-Thanks Delluser
