2 GB 2 x 1 GB Memory Module Kit for XPS 400 Dimension 9150 Desktop
1 GB Memory Module for Dell XPS 400 Desktop Dimension 9150 System

uggh i hate dell.. sneaky bastards yah i was wondering if i was just going to have to end up using my original 2 512 mb sticks but why not just send the 1gb back to get refund ?i dont think ill ever upgrade my processer to use the full 4gb but they are so cheap i might just buy one more gb to run dual

so it doesnt matter what order i place it in right ? like the 2 gb ones paired in slots 1 and 3 and the two 512mb in slots 2 and 4? or better yet since pentium 4 isnt dual i can just use an odd number of memory sticks for another pc correct? like 2 512mb and 1 gb?

Wow.. this is quite a thread! So many good answers!

I have a Dell 9150 (with all the stock parts in, including a tv card, soundcard..). I would just like to double check that the 9800 GT will work for me like it has for others?

Also is it possible to buy a 9800 GTX, without needing a new psu? (I still have the stock PSU in there)?

Thanks for your help!

hey delluser. im planing on buying a new motherboard and case. is upgrading it as easy as swithcinh over all of the components. the intel pentium d is a 775 socet right.? is there any other parts i would need to replace? thanks

sorry for the double post but i was wondering if you know of anyway to get the switch for my fan on the outside. i dont like having to open it up to adjust it.

Pretty much.
Yes socket 775.
Depending on the case the Dell psu may or may not fit.
You would also need a copy of Windows.
For the fan switch, if you're only using a single fan cut a couple of the bars on the grid and slide it thru.

lol.i actually did that right before you responded. is there anyway to get the temp of my hardware? i only can show the temps on my hard drive

i got a new gpu and it has a y splitter. do i plug both ends of the y spliter into one of the 4 pin power connectors? i have it connect into 1 right now and it work. thanks

lol. the geforce 9800 gt. sli ready. im planing on getting the nforce 750i motherboard. would you think this is a good board? i knw there are others out there but im kinda on a budget. 6.0 raiting for gaming graphics!!!!!!!

i just upgraded to 4 gb of ram. when i try to fun the test it says it can not complete the test. it is the esact same ram i was using before. windows does show all 4 gb

quick question about my fans I'm unsure but i think i have the two front ones acting as exhaust already they blow air out so shouldn't i want to put the two 80 mm facing in instead of out or am i mistaking about the 120mm fan and the 90 mm fan in the front of my xps 400 ?

when i put my hands near the fans in the front i can feel cold air its not powerful cold air like my 80 mm so im not sure if it is blowing cold air out or in

you feel the cold air it's pulling in. I had that same question. Use a thin tissue to see where the drag goes.

wonderful thread. answers all my questions about my xps400. Despite being skeptic about psu not handling a newer powerful graphics card I ordered the Sapphire HD 3870 from Newegg anyway ($65 after $20rebate). What a nice surprise that it's working, even though it says it needs a 400W psu. I only have it running for a few hours and put some load on it. no problems so far. good to know that there are good psu options out there that fit the xps400 and I appreciate the suggestions you folks made so far.

edit1: just added another fan to the back grill and was able to drop the temp of the new card from 55C to 45C idle, thanks for the tip. Didn't really expect it to get really warm in there.

i just bought a spot cooling fan. the problem is it uses a 3 pin connector and when i plu it into the mobo it will not turn on. if i use a convetor to a 4 pin psu connector it works. what am i doing wrong?

I was wondering myself where you found a three pin connector on the board and opened my case to find it, no luck of course. surprised you got it in there 😉
