Yet another teaser:

These pictures are from a ATi reference board, but isnt that "asynch." and "Link Width 16x" simply inspiring??

Have they given us a definite release date? Or do we still have to rely on teasers?

On a kind of off topic note...

Its really annoying me that ATi and nVidia both put in artificial driver restrictions to lock Xfire/SLi into their respective motherboards.

Its anti-competitive imho, ATi and nVidia should be required by law to allow their multi-GPU systems to run on Intel, ATi, or nVidia chipset mobos. After all it is supposed to be a free market, and if, for example, R600 turns out to be 3x as fast as G80 and RD600 turns out to have a 270MHz max FSB and dire memory performance compared to nForce 680i, I should be able to choose each on its own merits and go R600+nForce680i

(I know by the way that R600 WONT be 3* the speed of G80 and that RD600 will hit way more than 270MHz before you all start correcting me)

If I want to run R600 Xfire on an nForce 680i, I should be able to. If I want to run G80 SLi on an RD600, I should be able to.

Basically this mobo looks sexy but if I buy a G80 then this cuts off my SLi upgrade path 🙁

Nice rant. No objections to that here. A little regulation could go a long way. Then again, when we start letting the government regulate....

Me personally, even though I could afford it, see Crossfire, SLI and what ever else they way try as simply a gimmick. Its totally out of the price to performance mindset that we each should employ. All you get from SLI anyways is just diminishing returns.

'sides, there should be some third party drivers that work around that issue.

Well it's an elbow-out market. They're all trying to do the other in. But ultimately you're right, the consumers get shafted. Those of us who are STUPID enough to constantly pay top dollar for the best just get suckered. Computer companies are known for selling us stuff we can't upgrade. (Just look at Dell) They want us to purchase entirely new systems. It's why M$ has made billions on operating systems they never really complete. It's really nothing new and I'm not shocked. But it does piss me off. However, consumers will never unionize and protest, and government can't oversee ethics. It's like the Sarbanes-Oxley act, or Affirmative Action. It's a nice thought. M$ gets sued...and continues their monopoly. Google comes into play and violates all of our privacies. BestBuy profiles and tells their sales people to approach young white rich looking men. "Business ethics" is a sweet idea they teach in college, but it doesn't happen. Companies like Mattel and Ben and Jerry's get applauded for environmental and worldwide ethics policies, but ultimately go under and sell out to companies that make toys and icecream cheaper. Yes, the world revolves around $. I love the noble idea of being different and trying to change the world, but human beings are basically parasites that destroy everything in their path anyway, with little regard to each other and the future. Sorry, I guess I'm a realist who has come to terms with the truth about life. 😛

The only thing you should see in those pictures is the really hot NB heatsink. As you can tell, the rest of the board has a different layout, but the one Ive posted will be the retail one, this has been confirmed.

You and your "meh's"

BTW, I decided to list my sys specs in my sig, although my Raptor X is in my LAN party system (not enough room to list all my crap) and the other raptor is in my closet for now. I'm using dual 7200rpm 8mb 160gig Caviars in this system right now, they'll be going in my HTPC later on.

@Ninja
Good afternoon 2 u 2

I really hope it's not the one in the main pic...i don't like the layout as much, nor do I like the aluminum sinks....I want mine all copper. I'll still get the board, but if it has the cheap nb/sb heatsinks like the one in the original post...I going to have to buy myself a jing ting

And what site "confirmed" that?

I was about to slap you silly, not correct you.
My solution? Learn C++ and make your own forceware drivers.

Oww, my head. 😛 I learned Pascal and Visual Basic 2.0 in HS. Can I be done?

I know there are hacked SLi drivers about (although I'm not aware of hacked Xfire ones), but they are 89.xx ones and I don't want to be stuck with old drivers forever, plus these don't support G80 anyway 😛

The mobo does look really cool. Not so cool that I'm not getting my G80 next week, but cool enough that I'll hold off on my 680i until after R600's release in case I decide to upgrade from G80 to R600 :)

Is it just me or do I spy a digital VRM? 😀
