I wonder if there will be a D3 authenticator like WoW. I know piracy is a big deal and its great to see them taking a step in the direction of combating it. But if you are trading using real world money, it will make D3 even more of a target to all the account hackers than WoW. And I know in WoW I played for a month, for the refer a friend promotion and I had my account hijacked 7 times in that month. Twice in one day even. And this is without going to all these funny sites or installing strange programs. I know a lot of people might think twice about using real cash for items, especially if there is no improved account security. So the auction house for gold might just as easily house some of the top items in the game

[citation][nom]Capzoots[/nom]Really who doesn't have an always on internet connection, what is this 1998?[/citation]

I guess its a minority of people with notebooks in an area w/o a wifi hotspot.

I don't think it would be too hard to make a secondary single play mode that is offline and can't be transferred to online, but Blizzard is getting cheaper all the time.

In my opinion a real money auction house is stupid. It means people don't have to work as hard in the game to get the rewards, they could just have tons of money in real life and buy the top of the line gear per level and have an advantage because they have more cash not because they worked in game for the items. It may happen anyway, but endorsing it will just make it way more common.

Let's just hope the In-Game Cash Based Auction House isn't as corrupt with Blizzard as it is with Third Party Vendors. I'll be pissed if GMs are listing items that weren't even dropped. I also hope there are safe guards that protect players from any character losses from disconnects!

Typo on 1st line: "on the side".
Should be "on the side", if they weren't already there.

How the hell can giving rich people an advantage over more skilled people be anything other than wrong, in a game? I know it happened before, but it was wrong before. Do sports allow doping just because it happens and some players want to?

As these guys are Nazi scum the no LAN is no surprise.
Yet, what's the bet this game will still receive top 5% ratings from all the big (ie bribable) review sites despite having left out this, the #1 demanded feature for SC2 and bound to be the #1 for D3.

Damnit, I really really wish your ToS would allow me to post death threats.

(It amazes me that up to WC3 these guys were my favourite company).

Most people here are really ignorant.
I have been to all continents to Africa to Australia etc.
And i know not every one has great internet connection.

I am a Brit but really now you guys have to stop living in your little American dreams.

In Egypt you can see some people living of us$1 or in China you see people living of US$10 a month.
Get real this world is poor and only the Americans are fat.

How many people in these areas were going to pay for the game to begin with? The question is, do they "sell" more games without it, or with the restriction? (sell rather than played by)

A Game company makes a very good game. And doesn't want that game to be stolen. I don't see a problem here. If you can't afford a reliable internet connection (which isn't that hard if you have a job) you shouldn't be buying and playing ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME in the first place. Not like any of blizzard games require super fast expensive connection. I live in a small asian country with very bad internet but i never had any problem with WoW, SC2,Heroes of newerth, League of legends etc with my 512kbps connection and i dont expect any problem with Diablo 3.

People who lives on 1-10$ a month are not going to play Diablo 3.

[citation][nom]amk-aka-phantom[/nom]Oh, I don't know, like 50% of the world?[/citation]
and that 50% wont give a shit if an online game has DRM or not because they are struggling to live. It's only lazy crackheads like you who are pissed because you can't pirate a good game like Diablo 3 anymore

^ All the above people that complain , are pirates that won't rip this wonderful game.
I myself will buy it , also I wasn't disappointed by Starcraft 2 , as I always have a internet connection .

Umm... I already mentioned I don't like Diablo. Besides, every game they claimed is not possible to pirate was pirated despite all the DRM - I still remember how GTA IV protection was broken within a few days and there was a LOT of butthurt from Rockstar because of it. If I wanted to pirate Diablo 3, I won't be pissed, I'd just wait until it's cracked (and it WILL be) and then do so.

Before accusing pirates of being "lazy", think of the places that were mentioned above. People might earn some $200 per month, and after a while they can build a PC for gaming, but they certainly can't afford to pay for software and games, and in this case I feel like them pirating is totally justified. Just because your country gives you a chance to work and to earn enough money to afford to pay $50 per game doesn't mean the rest of the world can do that. In fact, it means exactly the opposite... where do you think these money come from? ;)

Diablo 2 was fun WITHOUT online, though it wasn't my thing, and I know people who'd enjoy single player there, and they don't have Internet - not because they cannot afford, but because in some areas it's simply not available, as in the ISP refuses to connect the district.

1. Pirating is never justified !!! Who wouldn't be butthurt if the game you created with your own money gets pirated. It doesn't matter if the game companies are greedy and evil, these games are their intellectual property. They didn't steal your money and made a game. and they never force you to buy those games. Pirating is stealing and nothing to be proud of. It's like coming to newspaper stand and reading everything you wanted but not buying a single newspaper. It's wrong.

2. You have no idea about poor people. I live in one of the poorest country in asia (mongolia) and let me tell you: People with $200 per month income don't even have a pc let alone gaming. They don't even know what is online gaming thus won't give a *** if blizzard releases games with DRM or not. QQ-ing about poor people not being able to play Diablo 3 offline is just plain idiotic.

3. It's 2011 and internet is cheap everywhere in the world . Even in a small country like mine i can get a 512kbs connection for 10$ a month and play any online games without any problem so i can safely assume DRM is not a big problem anywhere except some African country.

1. Is justified in many cases; they get enough cash from USA. And your newspaper example... if THAT's wrong, you need help. :D

2. Yes, I do, I live in India. People here can afford a gaming PC after saving money for a long time, and when they do, they don't care how wrong pirating is, they just want to play.

3. Apparently, you don't read my posts: sometimes the ISP will REFUSE to connect your house just because the district isn't connected yet.

4. You must've been thoroughly brainwashed to live in a poor country and not pirate... lol, good luck wasting your hard-earned *real* money on *virtual* pleasures. by the way, what're you doing on Tom's? According to yourself, you shouldn't be able to afford anything, be it games or hardware :)

@all DRM-supporting people in this thread: thanks for supplying very satisfying, butthurt-filled comments. iLike

[citation][nom]someguynamedmatt[/nom]This is what happens when people pirate games. Happy now, assholes?[/citation]

I'm with you, man, and I am shocked to see how thumbed down your comment got.

Do people not see that downloading a piece of software you didn't pay for is exactly the same thing as picking it up at a shelve, concealing under your jacket and run away with it? It is STEALING, thats what it is.
The difference is that you can hardly get caught pirating software, but it is stealing, anyway you look at it.

That makes me think that most Toms readers are a bunch of shoplifters, and coward ones, I might had, cause they only steal when they're safe behind their computers.

So, I hope all you fav games go down te DRM way, so you can finally understand what "This is what happens when people pirate games. Happy now, assholes?" means afterall.

Let the tuhmbs down begin.

True, but I think he meant that the demographic that is likely to buy computer games is massively connected, not the poor guy in a village in a 3rd world country.

He is right. If you're a gamer, most likely you're connected to the internet.

There is this thing called Moral which you probably don't have. Even if i don't have money i will never pirate a game or steal people's property (which pretty much same) because i value my moral.

About your ISP refusal thing. You said they refuse to connect SOMETIMES. India is a big country, there is probably some poor places where ISPs dont want to connect. But why would game companies care about those poor minorities? They aren't charity Organization like Red Cross. They make games to make profit.

Also i'm not brainwashed into wasting my money into virtual things. I'm not poor, i have a job and medium level salary. I spend my money on games because I enjoy supporting my favourite game companies. Of course i can pirate games everyday thanks to modern day robinhood wannabe's but knowing that your money will help those game companies to keep making awesome games makes me happy.

Some people just like to complain... if its not the internet connection, which makes sense why they do it, (cheating, hacking, piracy)... or the price... be it $60 (game cost millions to make, and u get hours and hours of gameplay)

basically people on here want blizzard to give the game for free and allow u to do whatever u want with it..

My big problem with the no offline play is that hey, I LIKE single player Diablo. I have no problem with having to start afresh if I want to go online. Make it my choice, don't make it for me. Unlike Starcraft which is no fun to play single player after you've beaten the Campaign a few times, Diablo continues to be fun. I never played Diablo II online, even though I bought it and the expansions. I played fairly often on a LAN with my friends though. I stay away from MMOs because the ysuck time out of your life in a major way. If you want to compete at any reasonable level, you need to make it a near fulltime job. What about us guys who just want to play casually? Lastly, SC2 is constantly down because of server resets and game updates for hours at a time. At least when that happens I can still play some AI games or watch some replays. Diablo 3 won't let me do squat.
