Not sure how far this will go as its got to be more than a "patch" involved as a lot of the game processing is done server-side now and the "patch" would be a re-write of the game code to move the processing over to the client-side.

Honestly, it doesn't really bother me that I can't play offline. After WoW, I'm used to the servers being down, maintenance, and not being able to play without an internet connection.

And really, I would have 0 incentive to play Diablo III, after completing nightmare. if not for my friends and family keeping it fun for me. The story isn't all that great, but that's where multiplayer competition can keep it fun and interesting.

And I'm probably going to get thumbs downed, but I like it the way it is, and I believe that having single player only takes away from the game.

I will probably buy it once the always online is removed.
Tried the beta and was able to connect to the servers once during the weekend.
What good is it if you can not connect to the servers, or two years from now they decide they are not making enough money off of the game and shut down the servers.
You can no longer play a game you purchased.
I still have a lot of old games that I occasionally load up and play. But if they shut down the servers this is not possible.

They will never cave to this. The whole design point of the game is to get people to use the real money AH. Once it is live it will be the only place to get the really good items. Who would sell a great item for gold when they can get cold hard cash instead.

They have already gotten $60+ out of pretty much everyone that is going to play the game. They have absolutely nothing to lose if people quit and everything to gain by real money AH transaction profits. It's simple really.

Exactly, you guys keep paying ridiculous prices for games, so they will do whatever they want. Its the same thing with the CoD/Halo series; they can release steaming piles of crap and people keep dropping $60. When will people learn...

Really, a petition for a patch to play D3 offline? I'd rather have a much more needed petition to play Starcraft II offline AND across LAN. I mean seriously Starcraft is the bigger of games even if the numbers suggest otherwise. Having to be online to play D3 isn't as bad as having to be online to play Starcraft II and trust me could you play Starcraft II offline AND across LAN it would('ve) easily sell(sold) more than D3.

This will never go anywhere. The last numbers I saw were 6.9 million copies sold. If they get the 25k sigs they are hoping for, that will equal 0.4%, yes 0.4% of the sold boxes. That is not nearly enough for Blizz to make this change.

This is very similar to the people on the forums who have a "great idea" and make a thread about it. Then they get 50 pages of people saying they agree. In their mind that means Blizz should implement it. The problem is, the forum is not indicative in anyway of the actual population playing a game.

Also, I love this quote.

"After personally spending $100 for the Collectors Edition to support their efforts for making a game I love and admired as a child, I was just hoping to play the game how I wanted to," he added.

The fact that you needed a connection to play this game has been known for months. If you did not like it, then DON'T BUY IT.

Of course if Bobby Kotick wanted to be pro gamer, he would allow D3 to have offline play. But offline play will hurt the purpose it's there to server...to entice people to use the RMAH once it goes live. Blizzard can't make cash from you after you buy the game if you don't play online.

Actually, that's not boxes sold. Over a million of that number got it for free with the Annual Pass.

There are a few things that should need pointing out...

One. There should be servers with Gold only Auction House, without the Real money auction house.

Seriously, some guy wants to purchase some uber gear, that's great he spends his cash on it and does 150k DPS, but the competition factor is taken out from it...

Two. That leads right into the "Single Player Mode" that leaves out the rest of that bunk stuff.

Three. Refunds for South Koreans who are complaining? Well next time Blizzard shouldn't release it at the same time, maybe next time they'll just hold back South Korea release for 6 months until they made sure they hash out all of the issues with the servers. Seriously, those guys are complaining for their money back and the law that is granted there will just have Blizzard release the game in SK at a later date, so much for "opening day" anticipation. I know anything Blizzard is just the crazy in Korea, but imagine that... a company as big as Blizzard spends tons of money and time into a game, and you slam them for money back for a few hiccups? It's HAPPENED IN ALL OF BLIZZARDs GAMES I've PLAYED back from D1, D2, D3, WoW at release, Warcraft, etc.

You should be lucky there are server problems, I for one enjoy playing co-op, makes the game less monotone.

Everyone who bought the game and wants to play offline is part of the problem because they already voted with their wallets, which is probably the only kind of vote that Blizzard is paying attention to. Signing a petition after you already voted with you money is pointless.

Play offline they say, it will be fun to play it solo they say, we can crack it and still play it flawlessly they say

No thanks, the game its great like this, and im looking forward to arenas and RMAH.
The start was bumpy sure, but blizzard always fixs this errors, and they dont wait months/weeks to do it, thats also why ppl are so pissed of, they want to play it right NOW. (i wanna to!)

But i rather wait while they are fixing things up with lightning response, than wait for months for other companies to (sometimes) do zero/squat/nothing/nada or improve in insignificant ways their games.

"This patch will improve online response they said", 2 months later patch comes out and improves the interface to see the ping of other players in a more accurate way.

kinda tired of that kind of bs tbh

Its not the 'constant connection' that bothers me, but the track record of loging on errors and 'server down' messages since release is my problem. Yes offline will fix this, but not being able to play with a connection has made this bad situation worse.

they just really need the offline patch so I can play on my laptop when I dont have connection and for LAN-ing with friends. Sorry but it is just more fun to play with friends in the same room, and makes it easier to talk as well since everyone doesnt have to wait for their turn to talk. I love the game as it is but more functionality is never a bad thing, sorry Blizzard your gonna have to work just a little harder to make a ton of mroe money
