I'd actually be buying 4 copies for LAN gaming fun. However I won't keep my fingers crossed for this to happen.

[citation][nom]iloqin[/nom] It's HAPPENED IN ALL OF BLIZZARDs GAMES I've PLAYED back from D1, D2, D3, WoW at release, Warcraft, etc.[/citation]

This makes me giggle.

Blizzard knew there was going to be an insane amount of bandwidth needed for this game, and still didn't prep their servers to handle. The only valid reason to do this is to increase profits.

Blizzard opted to make this online-only, while taking from the expected/desired experience from it's predecessors, for the purpose of RMAH, and to deter piracy for a few months. Once again: increase profits.

You blizzard fanboys need to wake the fuck up. They dropped the ball on this one to save a few bucks, and you guys are on your knees asking for more.

[citation][nom]v3nom777[/nom]Honestly, it doesn't really bother me that I can't play offline. After WoW, I'm used to the servers being down, maintenance, and not being able to play without an internet connection. And really, I would have 0 incentive to play Diablo III, after completing nightmare. if not for my friends and family keeping it fun for me. The story isn't all that great, but that's where multiplayer competition can keep it fun and interesting. And I'm probably going to get thumbs downed, but I like it the way it is, and I believe that having single player only takes away from the game.[/citation]

I agree, it not only keeps the game free of people pirating it, but it keep players interest as they finish all the levels, you can play with friends when they ask and what not. I know I will get thumbed down as well cause most people can not tolerate a difference in opinion from them, but meh, it does not bother me that pirates and children do not like what I say, especially when I speak the truth.

Perhaps you wouldn't feel the same if you consistently couldn't login or got the famous 3007 error all the time in the middle of boss fights or cut scenes.

LOL D3 suckers 😛
$60 = average profit for blizzard
$$$ sale transactions from real money auction house = PRICELESS!

90% of those people signing will be the people trying to pirate the game. Which is the exact reason they made the game online online. I for one don't blame them. It's to easy to get anything online.

Blizzard fans are actually stupid enough to give the company money and then demand things. Voting with wallet, what happened to that?

No, they made the game online only because offline players can't buy things from the RMAH. Activision Blizzard believes their cut off the RMAH will be greater than the sales they lost due to the online only play.

if the pirates can crack WoW for private servers, what is this D3, it is a cake for them.

Seriously Blizzard are only punishing the legit players, not the pirates, a year from now u might see D3 crack server up or u might even able to host it on ur own.

like I cant live without D3, I got my Torchlight 2. And I am going to be happy to buy another copy again later if things turn out right. Runicgame provide the classic LAN play on a single copy torchlight 2. (yes u can play multiple computers on a single copy just not online) and they got my money. Blizzard? in ur F* dream.

The last patch glitched my game and reset my gold to 0, then reset what level I was on to the first act, level 1. I had to 'start a new game' where I left off with no gold because of the unskipable update to work online. I'm playing it solo for my first playthrough, and the mandatory update screwed up my gamesave.

This is exactly why there needs to be an offline mode.

[citation][nom]Rick_Criswell[/nom]I will probably buy it once the always online is removed. Tried the beta and was able to connect to the servers once during the weekend. What good is it if you can not connect to the servers, or two years from now they decide they are not making enough money off of the game and shut down the servers. You can no longer play a game you purchased. I still have a lot of old games that I occasionally load up and play. But if they shut down the servers this is not possible.[/citation]

Bingo!

Point best made with the server requirement and servers being shut down comment. Without a legal requirement to keep the servers going for those who have paid for their "client access license", everyone that paid for the game is at the mercy of the vendor to not abandon the game if it makes business sense for them to do so.

Private servers already exist, takes all of three steps to connect to them, you can find them by googling "Diablo iii private server".

"Online only" play, like every other type of DRM, did absolutely nothing to stop pirates - all it did was drive away paying customers. The stupidity that these big companies exhibit in constantly pouring money into pissing people off is astounding. To date, there has not been a single major game that wasn't playable by people who didn't pay for it within a few weeks of launch.

Oh, and remember, when you pay cash money for these games, you're actually paying extra money to fund this ridiculous pissing contest!

Every major game is made by one of a very few companies nowadays, all of which are pulling similar stunts, that's what. Capitalism doesn't work when monopolies are the norm.

Useless. I bet you can torrent one already for free! Get the freemium game from a torrent site. Don't pay Blizzard. Make them get it: I am not paying for a DRM never ever again! I am poor I cannot afford buying and paying for DRMs.

Man, I've been looking forward to play this game for a long time. I was invited for beta and played it almost every day for 7 months and preordered it months ahead.
The beta was OK, and they made it even better listening to fans. Beta was 5% of the game, now they have to balance the other 95% so I know it's gonna take some time to fix/balance everything cause there is 6,9mil people playing (or at the time I can say beta testing) and everyone will find some "bug" or "GREAT IMPROVEMENT TIP!!!11".

As for the offline mode, it ain't gonna happen.
As someone stated, we all knew it required a stable Internet connection years ago. It's like lashing out on your car reseller that your car needs gasoline to run.
I am not furious about the online requirement but I want servers to be up at least 99% of the time. From May 15th I lost precious time trying to log on due to errors "37, 73, 12983712, 12398127494..." and I'm totally losing my interest for playing cause I'm now starting to see all the bad things that I would normally just overlook.
I kinda have a feeling like you bought a brand new car but you can't drive it whenever you need/want and almost every few days you have to fix it.
I don't wanna hear another "sorry for inconvenience".
GTFO with excuses and fix your goddamn servers and bandwith already! Like FAST!

People talking about the RMAH.. stop it. Jesus christ, you guys are acting like kids about it. Honestly think about the real money auction house. There are millions of players all finding the same or relatively same powerful gear. At most, a perfect item is going to fetch a few dollars. It's not going to be some insane multi million dollar get rich quick scheme. They're better off just using the gold auction house. I know many players like myself that will not use the RMAH, regardless of how cheap an item is.

Few things that have been said - SC2 was offline. You were perfectly capable of logging in the game with no internet connection and playing the campaign.

- The servers now are stable. There are some issues of rubber banding that get annoying, but usually occur far from eachother to be noticeable. The beta was also not nearly a good way to showcase the game. Blizzard did it perfectly in my opinion. They had the beta as a beta. It was not a selling point to get people interested, it was a beta. I'd say getting to the skeleton king is the second most boring part of D3, that combined with having few skills made the beta not a great selling point. The game itself is amazing; if you're not playing it because of some strange reason, you're missing out.

Point of the second half - Always remember that a beta means nothing more than a beta. It's not some sneak peak into what they game is going to be like.

Also the error 37 during the first two days was blizzards way of dealing with the billions (figuratively) of people logging in at once. Instead of having the server authenticating each and every person, it only did it for X amount of people, and those with 37 just relog. Quick and easy. Less than a minute spamming log in and you were in.
