Frankly, I think most folks know what they're willing to get themselves into, and what they want to sit out. I was more than happy to play the titles billed as DX10 promoters, such as Bio Shock using Windows XP, simply because, as much as I wanted to jump on the Vista bandwagon, I felt it wasn't ready yet. Whether Windows 8 is good, or bad, or far worse excremental things, I really don't care. That can be chalked up to personal opinion, as that's what it is. I, like a lot of folks, waited until I saw 7, then my inner nerd could resist no longer and I splurged, not out of necessity, but out of, "Gee, I really like this!" I'm putting it on other people's new computers and I think it's time for me to move on too... 🙂 DirectX 11.2 is a good iteration of DirectX, as I think most are, but I doubt anybody is going to rue the temporary lack of it, anymore than Microsoft will gain sales from it. I would never be so bold to say I'm happy when I can't have what's newest, in regards what I want technology wise, but I'm able to at least get some great enjoyment, and the stuff I'm missing is so trivial, it's hardly worth the conniptions I'm allowed by the girlfriend to throw. I appreciate that I have a lot of great versions of Windows to choose from, and a lot of great programs I can run on those versions of Windows. I honestly hope that Microsoft can find a happy balance between the coding improvements they made in Windows 8 and the UI loyalty the fans of Windows 7 have, that Windows 9 is a resoundingly accepted, good step forward. Clearly they can do good things, even if they miss now and then.
