directX question

If on a notebook computer the GPU is directX 8 can the software update from something like windows.update make it work on a directX 9 game? The GPU i'm asking about is "GeForce 4 440 go" it says its directX 8 I just want to know if its possible to play directX 9 games with it.

yes its possible, as long as you have directX 9, however, the DX9 features will be missing, so it wont look as good as it would if you had a dx9 compliant Vid card
