Disk Cleanup wont work

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone can help with the problem I am
having. I normally run Disk Cleanup every couple of days.
Since the weekend it wont run at all. It gets 3 bars
across & says compressing old files, and then doesnt get
any further. The programme hasnt crashed but it just does
nothing. The rest of the computer seems to be going
exceptionally slow & crashing often. Ive tried system
restore but it wont revert back to even the most recent
saved restore point. Disk cleanup wont even run properly
in safe mode. Any ideas?
