I'm preparing my 3.5 campaign for this classic module and i'm trying to
prepare some time keeping and weather data with DMGenie... (check out
www.dmgenie.com if you don't have a clue what it is) so I have a question
for DMs of Greyhawk...
To setup a more accurate weather system I need to know the approximate
Latitude of Hommlet. Has anyone figured this out before?

(Posting from Google, sorry for any difficulty)

I don't know of anyone having done this before, but I've got the LGG,
so I'll see what I can do. Looking at the inset on the big map, it
appears to show most of Oerth. I think it's possible that there is
area south of the edge of the inset, basically the south polar regions,
which are likely just ocean. Note that the continent to the southwest
(which isn't shown in most Oerth materials) is cut off at the south
edge.

So, if we assume that the equator is just south of the middle of the
inset map (say, cutting across the bottom edge of Hepmonaland, the
small sub-continent southeast of the Flanaess), the 45 degrees north
line hits the Flanaess right about the big LGG map's fold line. 😀
Hommlet is just south of that line, between Verbobonc and the city of
Stalmaer, isn't it? (north of Verbobonc, I thought, since the map has
changed slightly). In any case, it's around that area.

This means Hommlet is at 40 to 45 degrees north latitude. Obviously,
if you disagree with some of my assumptions, feel free to correct me,
and this was done completely by estimation and eyeballing. I find the
45 degree line matching the fold line of the map is quite useful,
though.

Hope this helps.

Are you using the weather system that came with the original 1983 boxed
set or the new 3E one? If the later, the latitudes can be found there,
and for the former, you only need to know the climate type, ie., arctic,
temperate, etc.

DMgenie rules!
