According to the specs, that system has 4 full sized PCI-E slots and was able to support 4 graphic cards so I do not think you are limited to the current X1 slot but you may want to confirm this with the vendors.
Why the change? Gaming or improved productivity?

Yes it does have 4 slots... I'm not really sure how it works with graphics cards...

I started with a ATI 1900XT that just quit on me so about 2 years ago I upgraded to the Nvidia 8800GT.. which has worked great until now I'm using 3d software ( modo and z brush ) and when I try to sculpt it just dogs.. like 2 to 3 second delays

The NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 512MB i think was the high end graphics card for the time my machine came out I thought it was like $2000.00 new or something ... 500 bucks seems like a good upgrade for my older machine now...

Does having more than one graphics card do anything for improving performance ? Or is it just for like running dual monitors or something ?
