Question Do I need to delete driver of Scanner before reinstalling the software?

For the first time i am a tech problem with my Epson V300 scanner. On its limited basis being used I no longer can view the Preview or Scan, but the process works besides that. I went to t he program and clicked on the Configuration button to no avail, so I decided to reinstall the software. I first was told to delete it in my Device Manager of win 7. I could not find under Display or any other area of suspect. It is usb plugged and there are so many usb controller shown in D M I could not or would not attempt to look for it there. even if its possible. Could i just go ahead and reinstall the software in the hope that it may overwrite the previous setup?
 
Your first thought is correct. This is how I would advise.
1. Turn on your system. At bottom left type Device Manger in the search window and open that. Come to think of it, in Win7 there may not be a search window at the bottom - I cannot remember. But do search for Device Manager, a tool in Windows.
2. Look though that list. It may be in the Imaging Devices list. RIGHT-click on it and choose to UNINSTALL this device. Back out to the main screen and shut down.
3. DISconnect the scanner from your computer - the USB signal cable is enough, you do not need to disconnect its power cord.
4. Turn on your computer and let it finish booting up. Now shut it down again. This will let Windows remove all references to that device as if it never existed.
5. Re-connect the USB cable to the scanner and turn on its power switch. Now boot up your computer. Windows should discover this "new device" and install the drivers for it cleanly. When it is done, try using the scanner to see if it works properly.
 
No Image display shown in my win 7 Device Manager.
Its been a few years since i first installed the software with XP, and now I am have sifficulty installing it now. I am using an external cd player and when i insert the disk. it only shows the files in Explorer. Settings does not show Install at all just various languages, I tried rebooting the desktop and still no results. I have no idea what my next step would be to get it reinstalled. I don't recall having this problem way back when.
 
FIRST, do I understand correctly that Device Manager does NOT show you that scanner? As long as it is connected via USB and its power is turned ON, Device Manger should find it somewhere. To be absolutely sure, do this. In Device Manager click on the very top line for your entire computer system. Then in the top Menu click on Action and choose to Scan for Hardware Changes. This will ensure it does find the scanner. Now, go down through all the main entry lines of the Device Manager list and left-click on each to examine the detailed sub-lists of devices. The scanner must be in there somewhere. When you find it follow my Steps 2 through 5 above to Uninstall it. As I said in Step 5, that probably will re-install the old driver you had. Try it out to see if it works.

Now, if that still does NOT work properly, you need to update the driver. Try this, BUT I suggest the SECOND of these options to ensure the latest Driver.

When you have the CD in the external player and your files are shown, you need to figure out which one is the installer. Apparently your system does not figure that out itself and automatically run it, so you need to do that manually. It will be a file with the extension .exe, and probably will have a name that hints at install or setup or something like that. RIGHT-click on it and select the option to Run as Administrator.

HOWEVER, that CD is old and will have drivers etc. for Win XP. That may or may not work in Win7. So your BETTER alternative is to go to the website of the scanner maker and search for the latest driver suitable for Win7. I did that by searching for Epson V300, and the Epson site asked for a specification of which OS version you have so it could offer a Driver and Utility package ver 3.50+. As a test I downloaded that and it turned out to be one .exe file that landed in my Downloads Folder. Just right-click on that and Run as Administrator.

I´ve had problems with an old scanner and what helped was connnecting it before turning on the PC. This might seem a bit weird and i also don´t have an explanation for it. But that works with my Canon Lide Scanner.

I was tampering with cables where they are all scrambled like spaggetti, so at this stage i do not know which is the usb cable for it. As for being old and win 7...about a year or so ago i had Motherboard problem and had a tech come over to straighten things out. He gave me a ssd win 7 disk cause my version was screwed up. I now recall i never used that cd to connect my scanner, it was connected to the desktop and worked beautifully, even to a couple of DAYS AGO when i had problems not viewing anymore the Preview or scan results. I did see the final result of the scan in Explorer. Perhaps now I cannot see scanner in the Action mode is because its disconneted, By finding that usb cable I will reconnect and let windows take care of it, like it did a year or so ago.

OK, I finally was able to install via cd by leaving it in the external drive and rebooted....up came ESetup which was never shown among the files in explorer. Went through tedious process and now the scanner is right back where it was when the Preview and scan were not shown and even after repair and reconfiguration, I am still unable to view Previews. I also checked Device Manager and did see this time the Image . Although its working, still disappointed about not seeing Prevues and I made sure that the box is checked. Perhaps unchecking might work?
 
With most such devices, when you install the driver initially, the Install tool ALSO installs several utilities supplied by the scanner maker. From what you describe, you now have the scanner DRIVER software installed and working when the scanner is connected, but the additional software is not working.

I suggest you go to the Epson website and download their most recent "driver" installer as I outlined earlier and run that. This probably will re-install all the tools, so it may get your other things working. Make sure the scanner is connected and turned on when you do this. BUT be careful to watch the on-screen prompts as the Installer runs. SOME items like this want the scanner OFF when they start and will prompt you to do that, then later to power on and let it finish.

Like I previously suggested by removing the check mark in the configuration box, i got back my Preview and view the Scan. I will keep your sugestion in mind when it ever gets screwed up again. Thanks to you guys that particapated.
