That just means the original user profile got corrupted.
If you create a new user, all would be fine.

And yes, you do want updates.

A full wipe and reinstallation of the OS would almost certainly fix it.
Or recovery from a backup made before it happened.

All updates are important, they cause fewer issues than issues caused by not upgrading.

"registry cleaners" cause more issues than they supposedly fix.

Agreed, registry cleaners are generally bad and very well could have caused your issue, although it's hard to tell. CCleaner does have some useful functions, howecer the registry cleaner function should be avoided.
On Microsoft's official website it says, "Microsoft does not support (recommend) the use of registry cleaners...Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of a registry cleaning utility can be solved. It is known that registry cleaners cause issues, so I would just reinstall windows, update it when available, and only use trusted software like Malwarebytes to keep you system running as it should.

Not necessarily. Doing a BIOS update carries a non-zero risk of bricking the motherboard. Tears might result.

You should only do a BIOS update if you are experiencing a specific issue, and a particular BIOS update addresses that specific issue.

See...if you had said that at the start, we might have gone down a different road.


Often, a "new" laptop does need a full wipe and reinstall. Gets rid of the original bloatware.
What make/model is it?

Well, you need to determine why it is doing this.

Is it a crappy laptop, or is it the installed software stack, or is it maybe a driver that needs to be reinstalled.

Either way...it is less than a month old.
Send it back. Maybe the new one won't do this.

Not necessarily.
It may continue to retain whatever bloatware it comes with, if any. That bloatware, if any, may be the cause of your issue.

Currently, you/we have no idea.

From the level of your questions, I am hesitant to suggest a full wipe and reinstall at this time.
It is relatively easy, but done wrong, can leave your brand new laptop in an unusable state.

Let us help to narrow this issue down. I'm basing this off of the Acer Swift 3 SF315-52
Full hard drive? It has a 128gb SSD and 1tb HDD. Unlikely to be full after 1 month, but it would help to know if the SSD is full as 128gb doesn't leave a ton of spare room.
Poor WiFi connectivity? This should be checked.
Underpowered laptop? The Swift 3 SF315 has an 8th gen 4c/8t I5, SSD, and 8gb of ddr4, so not an issue here.
Too much bloatware? Os reinstall could solve this. Neither of my newer Acer laptops has much bloatware, even my low-end netbook, other than the windows defaults and a little bit of OEM stuff, so I doubt this one does. This isn't likely an issue but its possible.
Corrupt audio driver? Could be, although the drivers should be correct from the factory. You could update your audio driver from device manager
Something else?
It's pretty hard to mess up a reinstall of windows if you are careful, so i would try that after doing the above in bold. If that doesn't solve it, id gets a replacement laptop. The laptop should have at least a 1 year warranty according to the warranty page of acers site.
