You can get a decent surge protector for $30 which is well worth it considering that a desktop is your investment. I think all of us prefer to go with surge protector. A blackout is unlikely to happen, but *** happens and it's best to be safe than sorry. Get yourself a surge protector!

Thanks for the tip. With a 1000W PSU, would you suggest that I plug only the PC into the surge protector, or everything else like dual monitors, lamp, etc. or should I plug all of those in a surge protector connected to the second outlet?

Don't even think of plugging in your PC directly to the wall socket if you're in a developing country with routine power fluctuations. In that case, you should also consider getting an UPS.

Even if you're not, it definitely helps to use something like THIS - You can get almost anything and everything plugged into that. Just make sure that the total draw from the wall outlet doesn't exceed the 5A/15A/20A mark as the case may be (The standard depends on where you're at)
