It was a text message on a CSS server I was on. Several people there
signed up, but I haven't seen any mention of it on hl2 forums, so who knows,
maybe it's bogus.

Then it's bullshit. Something like a DoD beta signup would need an
official statement. I haven't heard about it on the forums yet either,
so it sounds like a phishing exercise.

Definitely a fake then :) Valve can't broadcast messages on other
peoples' servers.. the news will come on a Steam popup or on the Steam
news bulletin (or both)
