Hello All,
Can you tell me in a monitor which is more better to buy if compared between the two??
Dot pitch or Refresh Rate?
The lesser the dot pitch the better it is & the higher the refresh rate the better it is.
But if you compare two different brands then what shld one look for most??

Thankyou for your time

Pranav

You have to look at BOTH. Decide what resolution you're going to run at first (ie, 17" probably no more than 1152x864, 19" 1280x1024, etc...) Then find a monitor that can run a MINIMUM of 75Hz - preferrably 85 Hz at that resolution. Don't even consider anything less - or dot pitch won't matter! Most monitors can meet these specs - so once you've grouped them by refresh rate, then look at the best dot pitch - beware of manufacturers that only list the Horizontal dot pitch (like Hitachi) - .20 mm (H) is NOT reflective of what the monitor really looks like - all dot pitch measurements should be diagonal, but .20 sounds better than .25, right?

Good luck.

I disagree, horizontal dot pitch is the only real accrate measument. In General the smaller the dot pitch the finer the image can be. The most common measure of dot pitch is the diagonal dot pitch. This is the “center to center distance between adjacent same color phosphor dot as measured in millimeters.” The diagonal measure factors both the horizontal and vertical distance between the dots and thus is an excellent measure.

While the diagonal dot pitch has historically been the measurement standard,
it doesn’t work for aperture grill monitors. Aperture grille is constructed using a series of “stripes” instead of dots. Thus, there is no diagonal measure and aperture grille manufacturers quote the “stripe pitch” also known as the horizontal dot pitch. Obviously this is a shorter measure and shadow mask manufacturers responded by publishing their horizontal dot pitch to allow consumers to accurately compare between the two technologies. The horizontal measurement is an apples to apples comparison.
