Question Driver malfunction with Intel WiFi 6 AX201 160 MHz ?

Hi,

I'm having constant issues with the wireless module on my laptop since I've bought it. Works fine, until I unplug the power adapter and try to download something. Then the connection goes off and suddenly the option to connect to a wireless network completely disappears from the control centre. The Intel WiFi 6 AX201 160 MHz shows orange exclamation mark and error code 10 in the device manager, but the bluetooth stays usable for most of the time.

I feel, that I've tried almost every solution, from troubleshooting, cold rebooting, updating Windows and BIOS, resetting network, disabling and re-enabling the driver, trying different network protocols, trying to reinstall with every official wireless and bluetooth driver from the HP and Intel websites, trying the functionality of the driver in bootable rescue image enviroment, reinstalling Windows four times (both 10 and 11), then trying to disable all updates and trying to work with the OEM drivers and finally switching the antenna connectors on the wireless module, which sadly also didn't help.

I'm sure, that it has something to do with the power management of the laptop, because the cold reboot and also the BIOS update manages to reset the wireless module, which makes it working and usable again, but only until I unplug the power adapter. Then after unproblematic few minutes, the code 10 appears again and I need to perform the cold reset or BIOS update to make it working. Someone suggested to change the settings of the wireless module in the power settings to maximum performance, but the option cannot be found in the settings, even if the driver is not malfunctioning at the moment. Setting the whole laptop to the performance mode didn't help and turning off the battery saver didn't help either.

I'm trying to solve this problem extensively for more than one month from now and it's driving me insane. I was so desperate, that I was thinking about using an usb wireless adapter, but they are expensive and horrible for most of the time, so I would be really glad, if someone would manage to find a solution to this frustrating issue. Thank you for your answers.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Can you check and see if the laptop is pending any BIOS updates? Following that,
reinstalling Windows four times (both 10 and 11)
Where did you source the installer for your OSes?

If you upgraded to Windows 11 internally after installing Windows 10, you should reinstall Windows 11 after fabricating the bootable USB installer for said OS. On the note with OS install, install the OS in an offline mode(without the internet), so the OS doesn't download/install drivers it thinks is right for your laptop.

Manually install all relevant drivers in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Hi,
thank you for your swift answer.

BIOS version is the newest (F.38), checked that many times, because I thought the issue is persisting, because BIOS update wasn't unable to finish properly, but isn't the case.

I've installed windows from different source every time. Firstly, I had the preinstalled Windows 11, then installed the official windows 10 through the creation tool bootable image on usb drive, next was some russian repack of windows 10 22H2 update (downloaded from torrenting sites) and finally I've used something similar, but Windows 11 with disabled updates right from the installation. In the end, the OS version wasn't important, because the issue was the same every time.

But if you think, that the offline installation could solve the issue, I will perform it tomorrow.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Windows Media Creation Tools for Windows 11>Offline OS install, manually install all relevant drivers that are the latest in elevated command. Once you've installed all drivers, connect to the internet and then update the OS.

Make sure you've installed chipset drivers as well, prior to installing the wireless adapter's drivers. If all this fails to bring about any resolution, you should RMA the laptop.
