I currently have Earthlink DSL 1.5 Mbps. For at least the past week, I've noticed game pings have been higher than normal. I'm fed up with Earthlink's customer support. I've contacted them three times about it, but they keep making me do worthless troubleshooting on my end or they say that there isn't a problem and that everything looks normal. Which is BS, because I've had this connection for 5 years now, and I know what's normal and what isn't.

Anyways, I was thinking about switching to Time Warner Cable because I already have their digital cable, so I'll save money by bundling. I'm trying to decide between 7 Mbps or 15 Mbps. I primarily care about online gaming. I read DSL is supposed to have lower pings than cable, but on the off chance that there's something wrong with the phone lines (I live in an apartment, I don't want to go the DSL route again.

So would I get better or worse pings with 7 or 15 Mbps cable than I do with 1.5 Mbps DSL? And would there be a noticeable difference between 7 or 15 Mbps cable, or is it all just bandwidth without improving ping/latency?

7 will more be more than enough. Years ago DSL was a dedicated line so your connection was stable. Cable, you shared with other people so at peak times cable would spike. Technology has come a long way and this is no longer an issue.

Move over to the 7 and you'll be happy.
