Do games that take advantage of HT also benefit from a dual-CPU system?

Some games take advantage of dual cpus, and most games do not. It is not worth the money to get dual cpus judt for gaming. Any of the high end cpus will do just as good or better then a dual setup.

I think it will depend wether or not there is any cache trashing. There are probably pieces of code out there that benefit from HT, but not from SMP and vice versa. Overall, I would guess in most cases, HT optimized code will also benefit SMP though..

I have heard that HL2 will possibly benefit from Dual Processing. Now because HT is widely available it might be more towards the idea that HL2 will run better on HT technology, due to the processor acting like 2.

Read the benchmark and the Xions didn't perform that good (they cost twice as much as P4).
However, I assum that 1 Xion would have performed the same since they didn't test any games that support HT.

Yeah I agree, but it's difficult to tell. For example, Quake III is a known multithreaded game, but the demo didn't show significant benchmarking difference between a dual Xeon and a single. But then the question is, is the demo using all the threads that a true multiplayer or computer vs. human player would use?

Actually, at 258FPS who gives a [-peep-]?

Do you think that setting affinity to the different processes would have shown a different result? Also, if only one process is using the CPU intensively - It doesn't matter that the game is multi-threaded.

incoming FPS game will use SMT so yes SMP will work better but code will be made in mind that resource are share not "full" like when you have to 2 cpu.Game like bandwith and xeon dont offer more bandwith that a P4 in fact they offer less bandwith.

On opteron side yes bandwith scale so in theory the game will go faster but OS dont support numa except few linux and windows 2003 that dont support many game with bolt OS.

So dual cpu for game is not for tomorow.

I dont like french test
