[SOLVED] DVD drive reads ROMs fine but not DVDs

Hey guys, does Anyone know why my DVD drive would read ROM discs but not DVDs? They are regular store-bought DVDs, like movies and TV shows. It gives me an "Insert Disc" Message when a DVD is inserted. The PC sees they drive fine, The DVD drive is a
Asus DRW-24F1ST/BLK/B/AS 24X SATA, Thanks for any help.

Commercial DVD's have copy protection that may well cause them to be unreadable on a PC.

However, take a look at this as it may allow Windows to read the drive.

Okay, that makes sense but the original DVD I was trying to access was a locally produced thing with just some PDFs on it, I'll try what you said and let you know, Thanks.

Also keep in mind that all CD/DVD media can suffer from bit rot after only a short time. This will render a disk completely unusable/unrecoverable.

The DVD works on other PCs, Editing the registry didn't work because I didn't have "upper filters" and "lower filters" in the right side window

I've had the same issue with drives previously. They would read CDs but not DVDs. Or read DVDs but not blurays. If the discs work on another system, then you can be sure it's the drive. I always end up replacing the drive. I still have a few of the "half-way" working ones.
