Hey guys, does Anyone know why my DVD drive would read ROM discs but not DVDs? They are regular store-bought DVDs, like movies and TV shows. It gives me an "Insert Disc" Message when a DVD is inserted. The PC sees they drive fine, The DVD drive is a

I've had the same issue with drives previously. They would read CDs but not DVDs. Or read DVDs but not blurays. If the discs work on another system, then you can be sure it's the drive. I always end up replacing the drive. I still have a few of the "half-way" working ones.

Edit: Quote:
It may contain 2 lasers, one for CDs and another for DVDs. If it plays one type of disk but not the other then one of the lasers may have failed.
