Lol funny about piracy ...
Me my self ? a big PC fan , i tried to to get used to PS3 by buying it ..
Lets see what happened :
Bought the PS3 with 3 games
Day1: Played all the 3 games for about 1 hour.
Day2: Went to buy 2 games which played for 30 mins
Day3: Bought 1 more game and played for 2 hours.
Day4: ZZZZZZZZZZZ Boring console (didntplay)
-
-
Day34: PS3 SOLD With games!(zzzz Very boring console to play games on, specialy FPS)
Since then i just kept buying games for pc..
in the past, I was downloading games from the internet .. but realy ,, there's few games thats is realy intersting and worth buying ...
i Just buy 1 game each week to support the Companies and have fun with my spare time ...
So , that wt every one have to do , dont tell me about Ports from console , Support non ported games..
Like BF:BC2 , MassEffect2 , TF2 ...
Just keep the spirit someday Consoles will go away ...
Slowly the Technology which comes to Consoles like the wireless Pads for Wii ..
All of this stuff will come to PC.
With windows on your PC you could change the world , But with PS3? get out of here. im always sure about this.

you can argue about piracy day in day out non stop.........

the article is about epic "fail". If console money is more secure and more profitable than pc money then ...... goodbye epic from pcs. Farewelll and you WON'T BE MISSED. For an Unreal title every 4-5 years and the Unreal Tournament every 4-5 years again you will not be missed....

It is not piracy that is killing the market..... it is people's MAJOR distrust as to whether the game is worth the 60-70 Euros to buy and of course its replayability value and gameplay value.

Imagine companies releasing 30 titles per 3 months... Noone can pirate.
How many games do you think you can buy? afford to buy afford to play timewise? How many do you actually throw in the bin and then spit on the developers for making such an ugly game? How many do you actually destroy for not working on your pcs?

Mass effect 2 / dragon age origins 70 hours gameplay tops.... game ends.
downloadable content for 15 euros.... gameplay 5-10 hours....

Divinity 2 Ego draconis ..... gameplay more than 120 hours .... for 20 EUROS!!!!!!! (The game ROCKS!!!)

Sacred 2 COUNTLESS HOURS!!!!! 4 keys per game bought!!! Now that company has the brains.........

I enjoyed all 4 games to be honest.......... but really who is fooling who here? Who is abusing Who? Gaming hours versus money spent

In the current economical situation i would suggest everyone starts approaching the matter in a more broadened perspective... devs/gaming industry and hackers or pirating gamers alike..... They all have a valid point.... and they all HAVE TO MAKE sacrifices.

And i DO NOT take the ratio of pirated downloaded numbers of games versus bought games as valid..... Would you really afford to buy ALL the games you download over (c)rap(id)share? Hell no......

My conclusion......... Goodbye EPIC you won't be missed....

[citation][nom]matt87_50[/nom]if by rational person you mean someone who cares more about money than making the most awe inspiring games possible. [/citation]

to make an awe inspiring game costs money to hire the talent to develop it. it doesn't pop out of midair. also those stupid 2d flash games make millions of dollars.you don't want to make that money? fine. don't. you're acting irrational and my only conclusion is that you're 12 and don't understand what a business is or that you're drunk out of your mind.

In India 99% XBOX 360 Games are pirated and consoles modded. In some cities you can't even get a genuine console.no console is piracy free except PS3 till now.I think he should look at some classics to see how PC games are supposed to be ,not crappy console ports.I u give us second grade treatment u get the same.U make crap, we pirate it. Make good game , I buy. Simple equation.

There is a problem with their logic of leaving the platform because of piracy. They only produce one or two games every other year for the platform, most of their money is made off licensing their engine for others to use... So they make a ton of cash and let the other companies worry about their game being pirated. This is moronic, and a idiotic excuse. Yes piracy is bad, but studios like Bioware should be the ones complaining, not Epic. They just want to develop for a closed system because it's easier than having to deal with 1000's of system configurations. Again they should stop being cowards and just admit this truth instead of blaming piracy.

I'm against piracy, but I won't be complaining if all of the gaming business dies out (although it's highly unlikely).

Piracy is just smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that its cheaper to produce games for consoles. Plain and simple. Piracy and bootlegging has been around for years and didnt kill the music industry did it? Producing games is no different to any other commodity in this day and age. Can we make it cheaper and sell it for more, even if its an inferior product. I agree with other comments around quality of games. Back when I started gaming many years ago game quality was far higher. I could still pirate games then but I bought the ones I liked even though I had far less disposable income. I still on occasion crank up starcraft 2 or battlefield 1942 and the replay value is huge. The last few games i've bought I have sold almost immediately second-hand. I think the last few games i've bought that have been worth while were all valve games via steam, much better value for money. At the end of the day its the convenience and cost savings in developing for consoles and crappy ares games thats killing the pc gaming market.

What an absolutely shite 'article'. Biased journalism if ever there was some. The vocabulary used clearly skews the opinion of the reader towards thinking that Epic are a money-driven, soulless enterprise, rather than what Epic's boss actually said, which was that there wasn't much money in PC comparitively, Because of Piracy...

I like the way Steam has the games with decent prices-if you keep it under 20 bucks its more reasonable

Truth must be said: currently isn't room in the popular multiplayer shooters for games as UT or Quake. The most popular ones (MW, Bad Company 2, CSS...) has nothing in common with run 'n gun ones.

A fact to prove my point: UT III not only failed in PC, it had also very low sales in both PS3 and Xbox 360. And I'm talking as a Epic fan that purchased UT III both in PS3 and PC. Confront it, Epic: at least until you can make a new stellar sp game, Unreal is over (in both PC and consoles).

piracy is bad, but then you have to spend 1/5 of monthly salary for game, just because you live and work in a 3rd world country and simply can't afford to support every single developer you want.... i try my best to support my most favorite dev's, i've stopped playing online mmo's on private servers, i buy music of my MOST favorite bands, i go to cinema then i have spare money and all.... but that's just to much sometimes... if i will ever start earning more money i'll buy more legal stuff... thing is prices are really high and that might be one of the biggest reasons, because biggest piracy is in 3rd world counrties were people earn like 100-500$ a month and they have to spend half of that money to support roof above their heads... I myself earn 600$ at most, 200$ i need just for rent, 50-100$ for water, electricity and other stuff, food takes away like 200$, so i'm left with 100$ for luxury items, and i need clothes and other stuff :D
and the quality of games is not really improving.... at these times i can't seem to find a game that i enjoy.... 5-6 years ago i'd play 10 games and would like 8 of them, now i only play 10 games and if i like 1 of them it's a miracle.... in last 2 years i've finished only 4 titles till the end :( others i just couldn't stand, so to pay money for games i can't stand playing is stealing from me....

There is one thing that everybody overlooks. And it cant be denied.
I want a car. I pay $$$$. I get a rusty crap heap.
I cant get a refund because I drove it.
I want some new jeans. I pay $$$. I get a pair of short trousers that show my ankles. I cant get a refund because I opened the package.
If this REALLY happened, would we be called pirates for wanting a free replacement? According to some people, the answer is a big YES.
I have played Diablo2 and Stalker games for three years or more. Why? Because they are good games. I have played a game or two that was crappy. I persevered for a while, but realized that Most people I know cant afford to waste $100 when they could have taken their children to the circus for an enjoyable evening.

I buy all my games whether it be PC/PS3/360. I had my share of piracy back in my high school years into about my first year of college. Once i got a job buying the actual games in store was a lot easier then saving my allowance. So i stopped, and then as i did, one by one PC games started to decline, and if there were any PC games coming out the word DRM spread out in the PC market like a virus. Heck i didn't even know CnC Red alert 3 had DRM till after i bought it. My new rule of thumb is, if it has DRM wait for a $20 bucks purchase or don't buy it at all, heck if i can get the game for 10 bucks even better. DRM is the plague, why don't they just partner up with Steam and just STFU. Most PC's cost a pretty penny, but the tasks you can do on a PC over a console is worth the price be it desktop or laptop. Crysis 2 is going to be multi-platform, and sadly even if it looks better on my PC, i have no choice but to get it for the 360. Exclusive games is what sells consoles. Sadly thats dieing out in the console market, but as sad as that is the PC one died right about a few months after the PS3 n the Wii hit the market. What will push people to buy new graphic cards, processors beyond software applications. What will makes us want to upgrade when the console counterpart games is guaranteed to work flawlessly. Nothing will, that niche in making me want to upgrade to a fermi GPU is about if any new PC exclusive will come out to make me want buy one, so far no game comes to mind. PC gaming will always be around, but it will be remembered not by the new port games coming out for it, but the classics that were exclusive to the platform.

BTW i was a huge Epic fan back in my high school days, I'd save every allowances/lunch money to buy the games on the release dates for the PC. I pirated the first Unreal tournament back in 2000 and it made me buy UT 2003 and 2004. That made me a fan, piracy helped them catch me as a potential customer. Sadly with UT3 being multi-platform i just waited for it to be cheap = "$10" bucks. And as for Gears of War, i just wait for them to hit 20 bucks a pop. Anyways thats my 2cents.

[citation][nom]dxwarlock[/nom]has nothing to do with the steady decline of the game quality you've been putting out correct? piracy is the new buzzword for anyone not making money. We cant sell games? blame piracy!we cant figure out why the box sells are horribleblame piracy!lets ignore the increasingly annoying DRM added to drive customers off..along with crappy ports to PC no one wants to buy.I've pirated games I was going to buy BECAUSE of the DRM.And to say going to console because of piracy? is just a cop out.If a game keeps me entertained more than a few days. [citation]

Unless you have spent countless hours working on programming a game, then you can never say that piracy is a cop out. I'm not going to say that I have never "backed up" a certain movie title or cd, I'm also not going to say that these companies are a bunch of babies that cry "Pirates" every day. I record music and I have seen my music out there in sharing land, it sucks. Not that I'm some huge recording artist that's out to make millions, but I do work hard on songwriting and recording. What incentive does a company have to spend a good amount of cash to only have it end up on Bittorrent? They are not charities. They are companies out to make a dollar. And maybe those dollars will be used to make the game better or to create new ones.

Oh,and here goes the usual excuses why people "steal" games.Im so sick of you thiefs making excuses why you steal a product.I mean come on.You say oh the game sucked anyhow, glad I didnt waste my money. Are you too lazy to review a game,or downlaod a demo? 99% of the time Im happy with a game I buy.because I review, demos, or know the devlopers reputation.Obviously, probably why you steal it in the first place.Because your a loser without a job! The DRM excuse is really getting old.I dont like, but it has never caused me any problems, get over it.Why do you think DRM came out in the first place?for the hell of it?!.Because you losers were stealing there games.

Make all the BS excuses you want.Either way PC is going to get crap games(ports) the MORE you steal them. You think stealing there games is a form of protest?! Get real, there going to win in the end because there a business, there here to make money!

The only reason I havnt went back to console is because of MMO's and racing sims.I am seriously thinking about getting a console soon.Because its getting to the point where certain regular single player games are not coming to PC.

Blame them all you want,if it makes you feel batter.Fact is they will always make more money on console, due to the amount of users and less piracy. If you guys were not stealing so many games from them, they could make some cash on PC games. Its just business.Do YOU want someone stealing your product? Do YOU care about excuses people give You why there stealing your product? Will you go where the money is? YES,its common sense.

Get a job and quit making excuses why you should steal someones product.Fact is,its just an excuses to not spend 50 bucks.Typical americans, want something for nothing....its sad.

Wtf happened to all of you who bragged that your going to boycott whatever release because of their drm?
90%+ of you just pirated it or bought it anyways so stfu.
Eventually we will all realize that pirating these games IS obviously making it worse and worse and because of you il be forced to play piece of sheet ports or give up an entertaining past time completely, and then the online community of ppl against DRM will be split into hypocrite pirates and non hypocrite boy-cotters.

Stop being hypocrites, stop pirating, stop #$%^ing QQ'ing that there's no demos so you HAVE to pirate it first to try it. Hey dumbass wanna know if a game sucks? Gee I don't know gamespot.com? ign.com? thousands of user youtube videos? And btw demos still actually exist, they haven't vanished 100%

If you don't think the game is worth the 50 to 70$ price release...then #$%^ing wait you impatient hypocrite, ever notice the prices on games that sell like crap? Like utter crap? They drop fast, not much longer than 3 months and it goes down 10 to 20$, and the trend continues... If your all honestly willing to sacrifice whats right and beneficial to everyone for your pitiful selfish desires then you deserve to have trash bag games thrown in your face month after month for up to $70.

Stop pirating, start boycotting...or stfu and gtfo

Go ahead and downrate me, every downrate I get will let me know I got to your childish ego and make me laugh inside :)
And every +1 I get will let me know there's still hope for pc, for the love of god think of the children!!!

He added that perhaps Facebook could still save PC gaming, especially with titles like Farmville under its belt... just don't expect them to look like Gears of War. "We still do PC, we still love the PC, but we already saw the impact of piracy," he said. "It killed a lot of great independent developers and completely changed our business model."

The guy is out of his mind. They were losing money because they were making crappy copycat games year after year... UT20XX?

BTW the new business model is called STEAM.
