ES1688 and Audio Scratching

I have a serious problem with this sound card-- its an ES1688 which is still playing back scratchy audio-- I have tested the speakers and they are fine / irq's /dma are fine.. can someone recommend course of action???

The oldest ESS cards I have are 1868 and produce good sound. I think I had an earlier card at one time with the problem you described, and I think it was caused by the drivers being designed for Windows 95 and not properly revised for any newer OS.
