Question Ethernet cable/ connection issues

While setting up my PC at my parents house, I keep getting the error: “A Ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or might be broken”

I went to Best Buy and got a new cable but still getting the same notification when running network diagnostics.

Not sure what to do and really would love some help.

What is the other end of the cable plugged into?

I am using the same port I was for my PS5 which was working. I just unplugged it maybe 30 minutes ago so I know the wall jack is working.

Link (cable plugged / unplugged) is a hardware function. There isn't much you can do.
Does your motherboard have only one ethernet port?

Computer is saying network cable is unplugged when I open network connections. When I troubleshoot through network adapter it says “plug an Ethernet cable into the network adapter Ethernet 2”

I know that the Ethernet I am using works, because it is brand new. It is plugged into the wall in a jack that was working with my PS5 earlier today. For some reason my desktop cannot recognize this cable. Please help!! I’ve already tried resetting my network through windows settings and command prompts.

Could you have the port speed forced to 1gbit rather than auto? If there is a cabling problem, and the max speed should be 100mbit, having the port forced to 1gbit will cause it to fail.

it was on auto as default, in a video I watched it said to switch between 100 to 10. I switched it from 100 to 10 both half and full. It did not work with either.

You should leave speed and duplex at auto.

You may have a hardware problem. I would recommend temporarily moving the PC so that you can directly connect to the main router.

I don't know. I am trying to simplify the problem by direct connecting to the primary router.
