EU power cables compatible with UK peripherals

Hello there Tomshardware community.

I have a question.

Recently I have ordered my computer from UK website of Amazon (I live in Portugal).

What I forgot, though, was that the power cables in the UK are diferent from the ones used in Portugal (3 pins in the UK, 2 pins in Portugal).

My question is - can I use the power cables of my old computer in my new peripherals or are the cables incompatible.

If it's a desktop PC make sure the voltage is compatible. What mains voltage do you have? There may be a red switch on your PSU to swap between 2540/110. Some PSUs are able to handle a wide range of input voltages. It should state what Input Voltage it can use.You may have to get another PSU
Same applies if it's a laptop, you may have to get a new AC adapter.
Otherwise I'm sure there will be a 3 pin to 2 pin adapter for plugging it in.

most importantly, make sure you're using a grounded outlet if the appliance requires an earth connection.

Main voltage for both the monitor and power supply are 250V on the UK and Portuguese cables.

As for grounded outlet, the whole house has it so, no problem there 😉

Is an adapter enough?

Take it you're buying a laptop? Then all you would need is the mains lead for the adapter...there are two types, 2 and 3 pins, make sure you get the right one. If it's a PC your old mains lead would be fine.

Your old power leads should be fine!
