Hey everyone. I have an asus laptop that lately has been having some issues with the fans. They randomly go to full throtle, and they don't stop, sometimes even restarting doesnt fix it, i have to shut the computer down a few times and turn it on again, and usually have to wait a few minutes before turning it back on, otherwise they go back to full throttle a few seconds after turning it on. The issue is not overheat, since i cleaned the fans a couple months ago and the air that comes out is always cold. I don't think its a virus because im pretty careful what links i go to, and i run malwarebytes pretty often. I reinstalled windows yesterday, and i went to the bios and reset things to default but the issue is still happening. This happen kinda randomly, i dont need to be using the laptop for intense stuff like gaming. Also, when this happens and i wait a few minutes without doing anything, i notice its mostly the left fan that keeps doing this, the right goes quiet for a bit. Anyone has had a similar problem and know how to solve this?

You spoke of cleaning the cooling assembly, did you replace the thermal paste?

Where did you source the installer for your OS? Did you recreate the bootable USB installer to rule out a corrupt installer?

Can you check and see if the laptop is pending any BIOS updates? When in BIOS does the fan ramp up to 100%? You could try and open up Task Manager and see what your system resource usages are like. As for your drivers, you could try and Use DDU to remove all AMD GPU drivers, then manually reinstall with the latest driver sourced from AMD's support site, in an elevated command, i.e. Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Hello, and thank you for the answer, and sorry about the delay, wasn't expecting to receive an answer that fast.
You spoke of cleaning the cooling assembly, did you replace the thermal paste?
I did not replace the thermal paste, i assumed it wasnt something related to heating, since the air that gets out is cold, but i might buy some online and replace it and see if it gets any better actually.

Where did you source the installer for your OS? Did you recreate the bootable USB installer to rule out a corrupt installer?
Sorry, not sure what you mean by these questions. all i did was go to update and security, and reset it from there, while keeping the personal files.

Can you check and see if the laptop is pending any BIOS updates?
I did, i think it is updated, version 316 seems to be the most recent one.

When in BIOS does the fan ramp up to 100%?
I don't think the problem will start if i go to the BIOS. When i say the fans go to 100%, i dont see any number, but they spin as fast as ive ever seen them, as if i was running a very demanding game, its a very loud laptop.
You could try and open up Task Manager and see what your system resource usages are like.
Nothing unusual in task manager, everything seems to be pretty normal here.

As for your drivers, you could try and Use DDU to remove all AMD GPU drivers, then manually reinstall with the latest driver sourced from AMD's support site, in an elevated command, i.e. Right click installer>Run as Administrator.
I might try this tomorrow, but what is DDU, by the way?

This does sound like an overheating problem, for which there can be several causes and fixes. ONE is maybe this. When you "cleaned the fans", how thoroughly did you inspect the entire air flow path? One common problem in laptops is that the fan itself is clear of dust, but somewhere else in the channels for air flow there is a blockage. And of course, the external air flow grilles must have free air movement - never place the laptop on a soft surface.

I cleaned mostly the fans, and some other things that i could reach with the air compressor without having to disassemble the whole thing, but yes, maybe i should have. However, if it was an overheating problem wouldn't the laptop actually feel hot, and even slow down the fans if i stop using it for a while? I will buy some thermal paste online, and when it arrives i will try to give it a more in depth cleaning and apply the paste, and see if the issue is solved, thanks.
