Im running it on very high on 512mb ram, as said before its only at the beggining that u notice this.

Athlon XP 2800+
ASUS A7N8X-X
512mb PC2700 DDR (6-2-2-2)
128mb ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
WD 80GB SE 7,200rpm

Me too, also, I close ALL other programs and unneccessary things wasting space in RAM before I play FarCry. It is a ram hog that's for sure, but I have 420mb free (XP pro, 512mb ram) before I start it, and after a bit of lag in the beginning (demo maybe?), it's fine. I'm on very high detail as well.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too😉

Just a note:

Far Cry rocks graphically (just got it), but I wanted to mention how much this engine reminds me of the Half-life 2 engine.

Lighting, shadow, mapping... I've played with the Half-Life 2 alpha, and Far Cry TOTALLY reminds me of how HL2 looks and feels. Lighting is strikingly similar. Even the physics are on par.

The biggest diference IMHO is how the different art teams implemented characters and faces, HL2 is a cut above, but FC is still very good and raises the bar for now.

HL2 seems to run a little slower, but not much. And it is an alpha, after all.

But those of you who want to get a feel for how the HL2 engine looks, give Far Cry a try.

P.S. Far Cry runs WAYYY smoother on my system than I anticipated. I haven't benchmarked but I haven't encountered a slowdown yet, and I run it at High settings. I am VERY impressed with how efficient this engine is.

Runs pretty well on my system at 1024x768 everything very high except 2 setting which I forget at the mo am still tweaking for optimal performance...1280x960 or 1024 runs bearably (just).....Anyone insstalled the 1.1 patch yet?

Well, the retail so far leaves me feeling exactly like th original demo subject. "Oh man, Farcry!!!" I hope multiplayer is fun too.

Well, I promised I'd return with news of how it runs on my pc:-
XP2000
512 2700 ddr
64mb GeForce 4 MX440

Well, I loaded it up, set everything to medium. In game I'm getting 35-42fps, which is pretty good, easily playable. So then I went back to Graphics config, quite happy (I was amazed really), and set everything to High. Oops.

So then I returned top game, getting horrible texture distortion....sand flickers black, if I turn quickly I get jagged textures mismatched all over the screen. Thing is it seems to be artefacts to me, but I'm not oc'ing, and so a bit confused!

Still had a steady 32fps tho :)
It isnt playable with these texture issues, I think its water related too. Any thoughts?

What resolution?

Curious since in the min. req. they don't support the GF3 (just GF4) which is a better/more capable card than the GF4MX.

I found it instesting that they didn't exclude the GF4MX the way they do in so many other recent games.

hi peeps, just reading along coz i bought the game yesterday...... i was blown away with the attention to detail even tho i know it can look better with a descent graphics card.......
just curious here, i have geforce 4 mx 460.... now i have all the settings on high at 1024 * resolution and it runs fine... however, when it comes to indoor stages, the graphics look pretty terrible, and the shadowing aint the best.... i was wanting to UPGRADE to a radeon 9600xt or radeon 9800 pro, wots ur thoughts??? or, could u recommend another graphics card all together????

got farcry, am annoyed at having to uninstall clone cd to make the game run but regardless it runs perfectly at 1024*768 with maxed everything (except AA is at low) so far the only time i got slow down was curiously in a "garage" type place with a burnt out vehicle and next to no detaill in the place which did make me wonder... apart from that the game runs perfect. oh and i absolutely love the attention to detail in the physics... like shooting out cables on bridges and stuff... gorgeous.

I think the lighting/shadowing is excellent, INCLUDING indoors. In the demo, when you are near the end and are going down that long hallway (before you plant the bomb) there's a light fixture thats swinging back and forth. Very nice:)

BTW Hogfather, I'm experiencing the same thing. I have a 9800 Pro. I get wierd artifacts that sound exactly like what you're describing, when I turn on the in game AA (I set it to high). Even when it's off I get black triangles on the rocks. This happens when overclocked, or not, and with the 9800 pro or XT bios. Hoping it's just the demo.

Same here...everything maxed out and runs great.
Haven't been here in a long time. Looks like the forum has gotten a little messy.

Far Cry is a very nice refreshing game.
My only complaint is the lips matching the voice overs. No biggy.
About as long as Call of Duty was for playtime, maybe a bit longer. ~20hrs for me. I didn't really keep track though.
Graphics are very impressive. Use a lot of power (1gb is key) but no slow downs on my rig.
1024x768 / Very High settings / no AA/AF / no vsync / ATI Cat. 4.3
On a AXP 2800+ / asus nForce2 board / 2x512mb PC2700 / 9800Pro / onboard sound (soundstorm) with both CPU/GFX card OCed.

Love the way steam/heat/water all seem to bend light. Great effect. The dynamic light from the hanging fixtures also add a lot. Especially when you open a door and start firing at unexpected enemies and hit the light with bullets. 😉

I even had several other programs running (trillian w/aim/icq/msn/5 irc channels,xfire,winamp,MBM5). I'm even running dual display (2nd monitor shows desktop/programs while ingame).
I did notice some FPS dips/gfx studder when I went up to 1280x1024.

Love rolling barrels downhill or watching ppl/objects fly from explosions. hehe
Overall Good gameplay/story/action. Excelent graphics/effects/environment.
Def. worth the $$. Also a good game to test new hardware out on. 😉

yay yay i played for like a few hours~~~

P4 2.4
MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R
512 PC3500 ram
Gigacube 9600pro

all running stock speed. No lag what so ever....maybe except when loading. One thing i hate about this game....the ladders are GAY (grr) or maybe i just suck...... I die too often... the AI is pretty smart....Pain in the ass to install.... 5 cds.....i need a bigger HDD....
i say its unfair how the AI dont have recoil when they shoot.... anyways....more coming later

If you climb down the ladders facing out you fall. If you face the ladder you are fine unless you jump. When you come to the top keep facing up to climb high enough to get off the ladder and on the platform.
I actually liked how you climb up and down. 😉

Havn't they also released it on DVD?

With all this talk about how Far Cry's performance is only marginal on a high-end rig (for which I am originally responsible 😉 ) I think that it is important that people keep in mind that Far Cry deals with a huge amount of OUTDOOR environments, and this is going to be a HUGE challenge for developers to deal with over the next 3-5 years or so. When we run 3DMark2003 we marvel at the nature demo, but look at the framerates during the intensive scenes... although this is only an benchmarking program, it demonstrates how difficult it is to render vegetation, irregular dimensions, realistic water and lighting, etc. I am frothing with anticipation of Doom 3 like everyone else, and I think the reason why they've been able to achieve the staggering level of realism is because the game deals almost entirely with dark indoor environments. The problem, I think, is that the current 3D hardware doesn't have quite what it takes to render outdoor scenes convincingly.

OH I as well.

The levels are open to explore. The brush is thick. The indoor environments are realistic. The detail is high. Nice use of shaders and dynamic lighting. The gameplay is terrific. The group AI is challenging. There are few bugs (I know of none).

Ya know what, I think I'm going to play it again on the hardest setting. 😀

seems like it's a little bit early in the competition for developers to release games that put THAT much stress on the system... I am pretty sure that Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 will run smoothly on my system. I can't help but feel suspicious that Far Cry was not

ever play UT2004, and Battlefield 1942 ? one loads in 10 seconds, the other in 45 seconds. the one that loads quicker has better visual quality and gameplay.. ill let you guess which is which

theres a difference between a well coded game and a no-so well coded game 😉

Just FYI, you do know you can reduce UT2K4's load times right?

Just turn off the option to preload the character skins (or named something like that) in the options. Cuts the load time to about 1/3-1/4.

I agree. There are many scenes, especially indoors, where visually there really isn't a lot going on, and yet the FPS seem way too low for a 9800. I think they should have spent more time on the program, but with the terrible pressure that developers get from their publishers, deadlines and all, we should come to expect these things...

Grape... I think he meant UT2004 in the first place:) Load times are low for me (once in the menu). And Ut2k4 and bf1942 are not even CLOSE to comparable graphics wise.
