FC-PGA or Slot 1 CPU?

i want to know wich one is faster P-3 800E SLOT 1 or FC-PGA 800E and i will have to use socket 370 adapter the Iwill so i better get the FC-PGA or Stick with a slo 1

Am sharing this knowledge based on my previous research on PII though the fundamentals are, i believe, the same with P3.

Slot 1 processors has a bigger cache, L2 = 512Kb compare with FC-PGA's 256Kb L2 cache. That is an advantage. But what i believe made the FCPGA CPu's better than the Slot1 is that the type of cache memory being used on the processor. In which:

Slot 1: a. separated from the CPU core
b. runs half the speed of the processor ( a bottleneck)
c. expensive (plastic cartridge, PCB Board)

FCPGA: a. integrated within the CPU core
b. runs at full speed with the processor.
c. cheaper to manufacture and selling price

Actually, this is no-longer true. All new PIII's have 256KB cache at full speed. Slot1 CPUs are basically FC-PGA CPUs on a small PCB, designed for older Slot1 motherboards. You can even buy the PCB yourself - it's usually called a Slocket or Slotket.

You can distinguish what sort of PIII you have like this - those with 256KB at full speed have an E after the name, and PIIIs with the 133MHz bus have a B after their name.

Here is what I think <b><i>may</b></i> be true (I'm just wondering this same thing myself.)

-Socket chips might be easier to get...

-Retail Boxed processors at higher speeds (e.g. 1GHZ) are/will be be socket only.

-If there is any PIII's produced over 1GHZ, they will be socket.

-Slot processors may have problems shipping/moving. I have had experiences where taking them out and reinserting them clears up a crash-situation, making me think that in some invisible way, their weight or the slot design has allowed them to come "loose"

-Socket chips might be easier to cool or, <i>might</i> run cooler in general

-Slocket (Socket->Slot) adaptors often cause problems

i your guys reading or what i said wich it the fastes between the Pentium III Fc-PGA 800E (E=Coppermine) and runs at 100mhz FSB mean very easy to overclock and Pentium III Slot1 800E (E=Copermine) and run to at 100mhz fsb if you dont't now whatt is a Coppermine check here

this is for serious guys that have tried the Two type of CPU the Fc-PGA And the Slot1 and know wich one is better cause i want to upgrade my old P-3 450MHz Katmai Slot1 wich suck to an P-3 800E Slot1 Or Fc-PGA!

so wich one to buy the Fc-PGA or The slot1?

Intel is leaning over to producing FC-PGA because production costs are lower, and they can pass those savings on to the consumer. From what I know, there is no performance difference from similar processors if all they differ in is format (FC-PGA or Slot-1).

FYI, if you haven't done so already, make sure your current motherboard can support a coppermine and in which form (sometimes it makes a difference) and speeds.
