Hi,
Just looking for some help with my build. Building for gaming only. I’m trying to stay in the range of 2000$ CAD
Here’s the partpickers link:
Here are the parts so far:
AMD Ryzen 7 9700x : 7800x and 9800x3xd are out of stock everywhere in Canada and are both around 700$. This one is 400$. If anyone has a better recommendation, i’ll take it into consideration! I’ve been looking into CPU’s for a month now and can’t seem to decide.
Thermalrite Peerless Assassin : Cheap and good I heard
Gigabyte x870 Aorus Elite ice: wanted a x670, but out of stock everywhere. I guess this is the next best thing.
Corsair vengeance: should be allright, wish it was cheaper tho
Kingston nv2: basic ssd
Asus dual oc geforce rtx 4070 super : now this is where things get hard for me. I wish I could only spend 600-700$ CAD on a GPU. This one is 860$. While not crazy over my budget, it’s still a stretch. I don’t find GPUS very exciting, which makes the whole spending thousands of dollars on it, way worse. Any other recs?
Also what power supply should I get?
What would you guys change?
Thanks in advance!
P.S I’m building a white build

Why not go with a b650 board instead to save some money?

Also new cards should be just around the corner. So it may be worth waiting. I think AMD is supposed to do a reveal on their new 9070 cards on the 15th and I think availability after that sometime. But going to a b650 board should help lessen the sting of the gpu at least.

This is the board I’m running in my build and it seems pretty decent.

I’m using that board with a ryzen 5 7600x3d that I got from Microcenter here. The peerless assassin is a decent cooler as well. I’m using one of those myself. Thought about the 7700x or 9700x but the 7600x3d was better for gaming for me and wasn’t much more.

But the b650 above if I recall has bios flashback so you should be able to flash it without the cpu if needed. If I recall it has 3 nvme slots as well. Anyway might give some options.

9700x is fine.

Kingston NV2 is not fine, kinston misleads customers by mixing QLC&TLC chips together and calling it "NV2". Just pick a true TLC SSD with reliable controller and memory chip. For example, ACER GM7, whose controller is MAP1602, memory is YMTC TLC——these map1602+ymtcTLC SSDs are very reliable and fast, so they're popular.

x870 is not fine,
x870=b650e-4xPCIe lanes+USB4
x870e=x670e-4xPCIe lanes+USB4
In most scenes USB4 is not useful, if you don't have a lot of PCIe devices, pick b650 or b850.
Recommended white b650m: Gigabyte b650m aorus elite ice, it's a fine choice for players don't need a lot of M2 slots.
Recommended b850m with 3 M2slots: Maxsun b850m-cross. It's a bit...cool? You may check it's appearance, I like it but I don't think everyone will like it.
Recommended cheap white x670e with extreme amount of PCIe devices : MSI x760e gaming plus wifi.

4070super is also not fine now, just wait for 1-2 months and check if the release of 5070 leads to a price drop of other cards into your budget range for your ideal card .
For PSU, any reliable 750w is fine enough, I'm not familiar with the PSU models outside China, so just listen to others!

Wish we had Microcentre over here too! Damn.
I’ll look into the B650; I did read a review on it and they were talking about the lack of control and freedom that came with it.. So I never really read on it after that. But it does have an appealing price.
I wonder if the price will go even higher with the new card coming out; or does that only apply to the 3xds? Idk for the US but here the 7800x3xd went up around 100$ since the 98003xd came out.

Not sure on that specifically but for a while you could hardly get the 9800x3d with Christmas coming. So you may have had a lot of folks getting the 7800x3d s as the next best cpu. As far as lack of control etc, I mainly just enabled the expo profile. I mean you can try overclocking if that’s what you’re after but a lot of the modern CPUs tend to try to ramp up pretty high anyway to get the most performance so I’m not sure you gain more than a few fps. Not like the old days where you could take a slow celeron and clock it way higher.

But yes I’m spoiled to Microcenter. I could go in and walk out with a 9700x, b650 board and 32gb ddr5 for $430 dollars plus taxes. So maybe $480 or so total. I think the combo I got with the 7600x3d was $454 with the cpu, board and 32gb ram.

Thanks for info on the kingston! Yeah I’ll def switch over to the B650.
What would you recommend instead of the 4070super? I’m willing to wait maybe a week but a month or two will kill me. 4070 ti super?

Firstly there's no necessity to kill 4070super by performance. Press down it's price is the job of NV's 50-series and AMD's 90-series.
For performance, currently there's no reliable information now😉just be patient, a week is not enough, maybe you can use 9700x's iGPU first.

It is always a risky decision to buy a gpu just before the new generation releases. The 40 series have been out for a while now and whilst they still offer good performance you will get better performance for a similar price with the new 50 series.

It is looking like early to mid February for the 5070 class cards from what I can see.

Ask yourself what would be a worse feeling - waiting a month to get the better card or buying a card now only for a higher performing card to drop at the same price in a month's time?

The new AMD offerings may be before that and may well be worth a look as well.

If it was me I would try and wait to see if you can get more for the same money
