Well, for all those that are interested in Folding@home SMP2 client (that can run it) but doesn't have windows account password, It seams the guy stanford made a work around of that issue.
There now a drop-in binary for windows SMP2 6.29 client on there
High performance client page.
This drop-in binary has the 6.30 client which doesn't require you to install the Mpich (this is what force users to have a windows password)
How to install:
Download the Normal 6.29 and install it as what the guide says of how to install it (although i wont bother changing the name of the folding@home-win32-x86 as it can get confusing for some but dont install the Mpich!). Next download the the drop-binary.
Now what you want to do is, delete the folding@home-win32-x86 from where you installed smp2 client at.
Next find the drop-in binary that you just downloaded and copy or move the folding@home-win32-x86 from there to were you installed the smp2 client.
They may look the same but they are different. So dont confuse your self between the 2.
Now go to command prompt and type in where you installed the smp2 client at. remember to type in (without the quotations ") "CD \" before telling command prompt your smp2 client is at.
Something like this , "CD \fah"
Now just type in folding@home-win32-x86 -smp - configonly
If you did everything correctly, you should see something like this.
Just make sure it says 6.
30 and not 6.29.
Now if you see and error like this mixed in with whats above,
Unable to connect to 'Greyhound:8676',
sock error: generic socket failure, error stack:
MPIDU_Sock_post_connect(1228): unable to connect to Greyhound on port 8676, exhausted all endpoints (errno -1)
MPIDU_Sock_post_connect(1275): unable to connect to Greyhound on port 8676, No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. (errno 10061)
Just ignore it. It just the client doesn't like see it self without Mpich sometimes.
Just configure it as needed (including you're user name and team numbers. I would hope your going to run this for team 40051 if you're reading it
😉 )
Just be sure to say "yes" to the "change advance options" and add the -smp flag to the "additional client parameters" area. it is importain. If you dont add it, you'll just be running an unnecessary complex to setup Uni-core processor client.
after all that. Just head back to the folder that smp2 is installed and click on the folding@home-win32-x86 icon and away you fold.
Why have Mpich still?
there are some Core_a1 and (i think) Core_a2 WU's out there that do require MPICH so if you get one of those, you'll be force to delete it if you didn't install Mpich.
Although the majority of WU's are A3 so there shouldn't be to much of an issue there.
Be sure to get a passkey to get bonus points for completing the SMP2 WU's early!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps anyone looking into folding@home SMP2 client!
