a crazy folding desktop or sever will do nicely. A single High end severs can outdo this entire team hands down in ppd. 😀

Eventually i plan on such a thing. Getting Moderate to high end sever just for folding but that wont happen for long, long, time and before i get that, i will want to invest in some renewable energy (solar and wind combos") that will keep the electic bill down.

Being the best folder of the team does cost. :sweat:

At least a 4P sever doesn't use any more power than a high end desktop with 1.2k W PSU can pull.....

Well it not recommended :non: but try the gpu3 client that on say nvidia on the download page. Other people with ati cards have downloaded it and ran it just fine when the ATI gpu2 client gave them issues. :/

It will function no different than gpu2 in terms of how it works the WU's, but it maybe coded slightly different that it will run. I've experienced this issue as well but it was with an nvidia gpu (wanted to test out how good was a Geforce 310M gpu on my dad's core i7 laptop)

If that doesn't work, i would recommend heading to the Folding@home Help forum here as I dont have much ATI folding@home experience.

Then again, I dont have to much experience with the gpu clients as i do with the cpu uniprocessor/SMP2 clients.......

Hope either the gpu3 client works or the help forum can be better assistance. :)
 
Hey everyone. I know I've been away for quite a while, but I've finally sorted out some personal stuff, and am back online once again. By the end of the day, I should be up to 8 dual-core or better SMP rigs, as well as a GPU client. We'll see how far I can go this time around. Can't believe with only one single-core folding rig I'm still at #20 overall on the team. You're all a bunch of slackers. 😉

Ah i just start almost 5 months ago and im only on a dual core laptop for F@H at the moment (earning a 1k ppd). so cut me some slack. 😛 :lol:

Although if you want me to pass you up.... maybe you should stop folding for oh.... 4.9 Years..... :lol: like that will happen.

Anyways. Welcome back 😀

and i just started a new team. 191779 :) im not sure why though, except for the fact that i can only be top folder in my team if im the only folder :lol:


oh and is there any way i can link my team to 40051 so that any work done in my team after going to 191779 goes to 40051? thanks!

i have a few questions about electricity. why?:
im 15, so i dont pay the electric bill :) and i need to prove to my mom somehow that its only a small difference in the bill whether i have 1 pc on 3hrs a day or 4 pcs on 8hrs a day (if im folding).
so i would probably be using the one in my sig, then a dell p4 2.6, and then a dell p4 2.8ht.
so how much of a difference would it make?
 
it would probably make a noticable difference, i'm sort of the in the same situation i'm 19 back home from college, and i did over hear my parents mention a really high electric bill but i'm roll out of here soon anyway going back to a dorm room where i can be as much of an energy hog as i want haha, but especially on old p4 they're pretty terrible for ppd/watt
 

yeah o would much rather use a few of my dualcores but i dont want to wear them out (trying to sell).
so i rather wear out p4s that i can replace more easily...
 


1 pc, shouldn't be to much. although 4 would make a nice hit in the electric bill.

Although i dont know how you could really convince you're mom about f@h even with just 1 pc. :/

Although with me now being in military housing, Electric (and a bunch of other utilities) are wrapped up into 1 flat rate rent, so i can fold all year long without anyone knowing that i have a laptop running f@h.

So im kind not able to give suggestion on that front real well of how to convince anyone to fold other than the normal "it for a good cause" or "it has the possibilities of curing cancer and genetic diseases". :/
 


Well... that depend on 2 things.

1. What the electric company charges kWh (kilo Watt hours). Example: if the electric company the charge cost 7.5 cents per kWh. this means if you use a 1kw of power in 1 hour, it will cost 7.5 cents.

2. you would also have to figure out how many watts the computer is using in a hour to figure out the cost.

It's just not something we can just say, "Oh it will only cost you $5 more in electric bill".

Different electric companies charge different rates, computers use different amounts of power, and the number of computers you have..... It's just a bit to much for us.....

Even if i ask the same question as you did for my laptop (and even with giving what my PSU max rate is (which is 65 watts), even i wouldn't get an answer to it. There just to many variable to say what would it cost. 🙁

Bad news first: In a few hours we'll be dropping down a rank (to 80th position) due to team "Geekdo". 🙁







Good news: i'll be saving a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to geico. Wait a minute... :heink: who swapt out my notes!?!?

I been thinking of a sig for the team for a while now and finally got around to doing one. This was really the best i could think of for showing off both sides of Tom's. Couldn't represent 1 with out the other right? 😉

Maybe i could do better later but it's a start.

Now if i could only get a better image of with out having the dots in it or looking like this....

For some reason i can make a really nice image but paint seams to compress the quality to make it look ugly.
 

I have a red/green thing going on with ability to see things in focus and those hurt my eyes, sorry mate.
