Ahgggkkk... I won't be doing any folding for awhile, this afternoon while I was out A tree fell on my house. The fire dept. has deemed it uninhabitable and I am unable to go inside to get my computer...

That's really lame that they won't let you go inside to get any belongings.

sorry to here about that. Hope you'll be able to get all belongings soon. 🙁

Lame, dude! I imagine folding is the least of your worries!

+1

Agree. I would Imagine so. I more be worried about irreplaceable stuff, Important papers, what going to happen next like new house or repairing the damaged one, ect than folding if i was in that situation.

At least computers are replaceable. A life is not. At least it sounds like everyone is ok.

dang that sucks man 🙁, i can't fold this week because my computer probably had an update while i was at the beach, so no point this week

Thats good to hear.

it always amazing that something when you a least expected happens and most of the time it's not the good way.

Anyways, hope everything will turn around for you quickly. :)

There's always a positive... Insurance is going to pay for almost everything, I'm getting new windows (were already broken, hinges cracked), a new carport (maybe even a garage), new dryer, washer, and water heater. So its not all bad, my one and only problem is, the insurance adjuster won't come out until the tree is removed. How does that make sense? and I still can't get inside my house
Anyways, I've got folding running on my laptop for now...

I notice you we losing points. Thats explains everything. :heink:

so which beach you at? 😗 Im only 10 to 40 min's away from a few beachs. (Hunting Island and Hilton Head, SC ) just to name a few. 😀

lol. Well i live in the souther part of the state. Laurel Bay, SC. Far enough south that most of my news comes from Savannah, GA.

Anyways, yeah i love the beaches here, At least hunting Island beach (first time i seen the ocean was on that beach. 3 weeks ago it was). Although i determined that the ocean is salter than McDonald's saltest french fry's that i'd tasted back in ohio

Well have fun at the beach jonny! :)

Ah just though of something. [:grahamlv:3]

For anyone thats wants to fold while there going to be a away for a long period of time, I would recommend turn on the client service feature (console client that is). Just in-case the computer restarts for some reason (like a windows update), under service, F@H would also restart. (even if windows stops at the long-in page, as a service F@H would still run.)

Then when you comeback, just reconfigure the client and turn off the service if you so chose to do.

Just an idea for anyone that may want to use it.

Yep [:mohsentux:9]

Also got that video up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr9WLNOGta8

(watch it at 480p and with annotations. annotations were used for spelling errors that i made that i didn't catch when i got this all together.)

-oneunit mean it only does 1 WU and shuts down. Good if you dont want to run it 24/7 and dont want to stop in the middle of completing a WU because you want to turn off the computer soon or going to be going away for a while.

If you want it to run non stop then dont at the flag.

Oh, and when I complete the 500,000 steps is that 1 WU? Also, how do i go back and change the -smp to like say 2 or 3 cores? Since i already set it to run all my 4 cores. 😛 And, once it finishes the 500000 that means i'll have points and be able to check my first points on the Donor's righht?

Yep. 500,000 step (as long as that equals to 100% is 1 WU.

Yeah forgot about that talking about configuring  Oh well it "is" in install guide.

Anyways, To do so, the way i've always done so is just the same way as configuring it for the first time.

Which in my guide, would be "Folding@home-win32-x86 -smp -configonly"

Now unlike the first time though, it will have all the info you put in earlier so all you have to do is head to where you need to edit. Just press space and add the -smp 2/3 and any other flags you wish to have. 😀

And, once it finishes the 500000 that means i'll have points and be able to check my first points on the Donor's righht?

Yep. You'll be able to check point every hour at standford and on 3rd party websites (like http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/) every 3 hours.

Also i forgot to mention, (which i also need add to the video) is that it takes 10 smp2 WUs to get the bonus points. Good news for you is with 3 or 4 cores running, it should only take 2 or 3 days to get that many done. (unlike me where it took me over a week as it takes me on normal size smp2 WU's 1 day and 10 hours per WU to get done. that equals about 15 days..... [:huntluck])
