Lets brake this down 😉
shovenose - Thanks, I like to learn something new everyday, unfortunately I forget more than I learn 😀

Yes, Ubuntu is a linux and it's one of the most popular one there is. (mainly due to it ease of use 😗 )
Hey warmon, I overclocked my GTX460 and these are the results.

Default- Core 700 - Shader 1400 - Mem 1840

OC'd - Core 875 - Shader 1750 - Mem 2110 no voltage increase.

PPD on HFM have gone from 9660 - 15369, can this be right?

ns/day on display have gone from 1424 - 1675.

She is smokin but still running a c :sol: :sol: l 53C under load.

912pt work units are taking around 1hr 20mins, before it was around 1hr 40mins.

Thats certainly very high. In fact that sound like the GTX 480 PPD @ stock speeds! 😱 Never heard of one getting that high. Last i knew, they were only reaching up into the 11k to 13k PPD range. :heink:

Certainly not impossible but it very high. Then again, who complaining about high ppd? 😀

:fou: Keep the Red Rocket at bay, fold all day! :fou:

If i only had the money to get me a nice 4P sever or the Evga SR-2 with 2 Xeon 6 core cpu's (overclocked to 4GHz range) and 4 GTX 580's. Talk about 100K+ ppd right there.

Well, i already have 10.10 for a while but i dont have installed on any computer nor have i ran folding@home on it (ran F@H a few time on 9.10 a long time ago and had it installed on a computer. Although i removed it and never installed a new ubuntu.)

I have it on a 16GB Patriot Xporter XT Boost flash drive but it just a cd installer version of it so F@H wont run on it.

Well exactly, I'm not complaining just wondering how acurate it is.
It folded all night, got through about 7 work units and ppd have stayed above 15k on HFM and fahmon.

The Red Rocket is still gaining but its slowed slightly, some nice figures on the stats pages.

I'm sure one day you will be pushing out 100k ppd and be top of the tree.

Meanwhile...any response to my previous round of Q's oh Veritable Fountain of Folding Knowledge. [:graywolf]

2. Is it worth OC ing the memory from a folding point of view?
3. Does running an OC'd card pose any more possible problems than a default one if no voltage increase?
4. If someone was to have 2 460's and was just using them for folding would they set them up as separate cards or SLI for the highest points return?

I will run out of questions soon.... Cheers [:fisshy:7]

2. Not really. Sometime overclocking memory can help but most of the time no.

3. That i dont really know. If it's like a cpu overclock, it could but with you already done plenty of Wu's, i would have to say that there little chance of problems (at least on the F@H side of things).

4. SLI has no affect on F@H. You could have it turn off, on,or what ever gpu setup you please (although it used to be with F@H you had to have SLI off in order to fold on multiple GPU's). With F@H you have to run multiple gpu clients to the # of gpus you have. This guide can explain the way to set this up far better than I could ever say.

I will run out of questions soon.... Cheers [:fisshy:7]

Are you sure? :heink:

If you run out of questions, wouldn't that mean your dead as no one should ever run out of questions J.K.

Your right, I'm not dead :bounce: I know this as I have another question. 😀

Can you run mutiple gpu's with totally different cards like an ATI and an Nvidia or do they have to be identical?

Thanks [:bohleyk:1]

Doesn't Nvidia's driver turn off their GPU if it detects an AMD gpu in the same config? If so, then not anymore.
It would seem like you could've done it before that driver, since they would be running to independent processes.

I have tried it.. followed the setup instructions, all seemed well but when I went to run them they both just sat there saying loading, and that was it :non:

I was wondering if having the latest Nvidia and ATI drivers installed on the same machine would cause a problem?

I could always solve this problem by buying another GTX460. 😗

On Vista yes but XP and W7 should be OK.

Do you think that I could get a couple of points out of my integrated 4200, while I am running a nvidia card? It seems a waste just letting it sit there...

you still looking to fold with Linux? It's not actually complicated at all. There are some people with guides on how to do it on odd versions like Red Hat. These can be quite confusing and very non-Unix like. :non:

I use Slackware64 13.1 these days and W3 work units work out of the box. I have a short addon script to get folding to automatically run at start up. You are welcome to it if you want. I'll be glad to provide any help or advice you want if you, or anybody else on here, are interested in using Slackware64 or similar. :wahoo:

Well I'm running W7U on that machine so I'll give it another shot.

It says each card needs a monitor but I'm guessing a dual input will be fine, one on the dvi and one on the vga??

What settings do I need in the display. like extending display etc for the 2nd card?

Ta. [:bohleyk:1]

if memory severs correct, there are a few people doing just that on the 4200 IGP's. Although the PPD were low. Like 200 PPD.

I don't think you would need to extend the desktop but I could be wrong on that, just tell the other client to run on the other card. I've not tried it myself so it's the blind leading the blind mate!

Meh you not the only on thats having issues. For some odd reason Windows xp on my laptop that i fold on decided somewhere between turning it off last night and turning it on this morning, this it's not going to see it's self. :fou:

I can see files and programs on the HDD (via linux) but it doesn't want to boot up what so ever. I've tried everything to get xp to run except for the doing a restore disk but too bad somewhere in the move. :pfff: Guess i'll just install ubuntu get this issue over with.

Well, not worth it then. Anyway, I just discovered that it seems to be giving me trouble installing linux, so I have it disabled.

Now setting up the smp client on this badboy, should be good for a few ppyr.. 😀

Hmm, I wonder what a pentium III would get, I have one that is apparently a Katmai(Wikipedia helped 😉 ). It was interesting to pull it out, because I didn't realize that it was a processor done Pci style.

Just stole it from one of my parent's old comps that was going to be thrown out anyway, I think I can start my processor collection with this! 😀 Unless the ppd is something massive, and I'm sure it is[/joke]

I still remember when I used to use that thing when I was like 5-7. The good old days. :sol:

+1

I agree.

Well, after hours of fiddling with ubuntu, i finally got it fully working and running F@H.

most of that fiddling was due to not noticing that i had a bad copy of the 64-bit 10.10( even though it was running off my flash drive just fine :heink: ) Eventually, i just went and got the 32 bit 10.10 copy that i had on my network drive and no issues installing that.

At least it running now. :)

Edit: Print screen of it.
