It's ok guys he'll be back! But I do agree with elel, we need to get Warmon to a doctor to get his head examined. :pt1cable:

lol you guys have competition (well not real intimidating competition but competition nontheless! *evil cackel*...
Just give up and join the dark side, we have cookies.

Damn newegg!

Ordered the stuff to get my hexa into production folding and the 470GTX. 3 day guaranteed shipping. Ordered Wednesday, Shipped Friday and It's due Thursday? To top in off, guaranteed 3 day always turns into 4 days AFTER the original scheduled time. I miss the days of newegg using fedex. I got all the three day stuff in 2.

Rant over....

Come back soon warman

I'll be back

Maybe in a few weeks (during or after xmas), i can build a small desktop that can be folding with us.

Nice1 Mindless its all gonna help. [:bohleyk:1]

Tell me about it, 5 days for a 3 day delivery and then a DOA, I've re-ordered mine elsewhere.

^Hey theres Warmon, I always wondered what he looked like.

Sorry but thats the terminator.

He coming after me for folding some of his guns. (thats the second non F@H thing i've folded.0 Muahahah!

Oh dear :ouch: ..... RUN AWAY!

*terminator* :gun:

About $100  (this is just to get the core of my family desktop back up and running.)

Which is just enough to get ram, motherboard, and cpu in a few of these combos.

Combo 1:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134787
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103698
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157204

= $92.87

Combo 2:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134787
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103698
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157199

=$110.87

Combo 3: (probably the max i could do)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103872
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134787

=$133.87

Yes, if i did get a sempron, i would definitly try to unlock it to a dual core cpu. 😉

HDD, DVD roms, ect are going to be reused and slowly replaced over time.

Has windows XP on the HDD so i probably will be just fine on 1 GB of ram. (I'm very doubtful i have any intensive games on that HDD that i would need 2GB of ram for as i only had a AGP Evga Geforce 6200 with a 2.8Ghz P4 HT Heck im sure the intergrated graphic on any of these MB's could match or out run my geforce 6200  )

Out of all 3 of the combo's, i like the 2 one the most as it has soild caps instead of liquid filled Caps on the motherboard. Although that 3 option would be best for F@H, general use, and (along with first option) it will be useful for the ability to run different rams and cpu's. (some times my dad and I will work on other peoples computers (mainly friends and family) so the ability to test different hardware on one board would defiantly be a feature we would use. Hmmm.....

Overall, im viewing these hardware more as a filler until my family has enough money to got build a a new computer system Like the Phenom II's and core i5/7's.

I'll think about it. :bounce:

Although i would wait till client v7 comes around to see how ATI cards are doing.

i wonder what's taking them so long to get this client rolling. I know it's in Alpha stage but it's been in that state for a long while. Really, im surprised it hasn't went to at least the closed beta group so we can start getting ideas of how this new client going to act. im really starting to not like this "no eta" policy the F@H got.

Open box 460s are 130-150 and 470s are 180ish on newegg. Back in the day I paid $450 X 2 so I could be the first kid on the block with 6800GTs in SLI.....sure glad it's cheaper these days.

Hi everybody...

I just started this "folding" operation last night and now I have a couple questions.

I'm running the V6 GPU2 in this machine (which does not have impressive specs these days). [:tigsounds:3]
It's an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ and the vid is a Radeon 3870, the system RAM is 8GB.
The 3870 has always been a great over-clocker, runs at max CCC can go and has never given the slightest problem as a result, so I leave it there at 885Mhz with a mem speed of 1300. It's been this way for about 4 years.

I can run either 32 bit XP or X64 (dual boot). I normally use the 32 bit.

I see my GPU load is 99% and the CPU load is 47%.
Is it worthwhile to install another instance of this folding program to run on the CPU?

I have no idea if the speed I'm processing is good or bad on the GPU, or how it would be different if running the CPU version instead (dual core), or both? Can Somebody here with experience with this thing advise the highest throughput, for the good of Tom's?? Thanks.

Here is a picture of what's happening now...

Welcome to the team!

With that much CPU load I'd be worried that a CPU client might slow the GPU client.

Depending on the job, my 192 core 260GTXs at stock clock put out between 1600 and 2100 iter(iteration?)/second

Running a single core cpu client isn't worth too much. Best bang for the buck right now is GPU, and mainly Nvidia stuff. I'm not suggesting you spend any money. Everything helps the team and the cause, and everything is appreciated. The guys at Stanford might actually discover something life saving in the process, so it's not just about points per day.

Your answer is exactly what I was looking for. This machine never gets turned off, so I'll just let it poke along.
Day in and day out, it'll do some good somewhere. Thanks for the reply

The ATI cards need a lot more CPU power to run, they all vary.

My HD4850 used 30-40% of a dual core Opty while folding and was worth about 1.2-1.4k ppd.

My GTX460 uses about 8-12% and is worth 11-15k ppd.

The Opty used to crash with the ATI when running the SMP2 client where as it ran fine with the 460.

I stopped using the Opty for folding, 15-18 hrs for 1.5-2k points, the 460 gets that every hour.

Have you downloaded fahmon or hfm.net to see your ppd.

Pity you don't live in the UK I could donate you some parts, I've got a Duron 600 here not being used. 😀

Nah, he was running 2-3 cpu/gpu clients in addition to the bigadv, was contributing points at every update. He's down.
