Anyways....Yeah, i see that in the hourly figures that there was a huge spike in points in the 6oclock slot on EOC.
Me thinks this is the person that made the huge spike 😉

Welcome to the team MasterW (unless it someone else here that named differently :heink: ). Looks like you're doing bigadv WU's there :ouch: which mean your the first person to fold bigadv for this team. (Or there a glitch at Standford, but thats unlikely due to the fact that im not seeing other teams affected by the same thing.)

Way to fold!

EDIT: Opps, if i went to the next page, i would of seen that you guys already found the source.

[:wolfen18:9]

I was getting ready to post that the Rockets had passed us and then, woh, were did that come from. 😀

So how long do bigadv units take on say an i7 then and does anyone know the points per unit ish??

If MasterW continues his good work he's going to fly past me..and many others..but hey, I'm happy. 😀

(warmon...are you secretly MasterW??)

I wish i was. I do have plans of someday trying to get something like Evga SR2 motherboard. 😱

Although it wont be anytime soon. 🙁 http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=270-WS-W555-A2&family=Motherboard%20Family&series=Intel%205520%20Series%20Family&sw=5

As for PPD/bigadv/core i7 stuff:

You'll have to dechiper this list your self but these are all recorded cpu's and WU with bigadv.

If i find more, i'll post them 😉

Man l :ouch: :ouch: k at that board!

So nowhere on the sheets does it say credit but it does say for a 6 core i7 980x @4.2ghz it takes 38.5 hrs to complete a work unit and its 55471ppd.

Well 55471 / 24hrs in a day =2311.29 pphr

38.5hrs x 2311.29 = 88984 points for 1 unit!!

Can this be right or have I just got it completely wrong! !

I'm just setting up my junk to start contributing again. I am going to start out running a OC'd Westmere (clocked up like that 980x) with a 470gtx and (2) 260GTXs. Until I get the linux and bigadv figured out (hoping I can VM it) I'll get started with my older hardware. Been out of work and broke for 16 months, couldn't justify the electricity. Hoping to help out with 80k-90k per day or so in about 2 weeks when I get out of school and back to work. When I get the second hexo-proc I hope to jump to about 140k per day.

That's right, my evil plot includes me re-taking the #1 spot on the team. I'm throwing down the gauntlet. Whip em out and crank em up boys!!!!!!

Welcome to the team! 😀 Thats some serious hardware your packing  Just dont go overboard with it 😉 (in terms of electricty usage. PPD overboard is just fine by me. 😀 )

As for your "issue", if you have a linux OS that can do this, try running it in "WINE" like i did a few pages ago.

A few guys on the F@H help forums are doing this for bigadv as they dont have a copy of windows and it my way of working around the 32 Bit Linux issue.

Edit: I should say, Welcome "back" to the team. Just looked at your stats and to say the least, with you in 14th place, that means we weren't folding hard enough while you were resting. Good to have you back.

Glad to have you back folding with us! You're going to practically double our point output with those rigs, that's insane :pt1cable:

Yea, not going to be able to compete with that, I'll just stick with my little folding/gaming rig tyvm. 😉

I only run mine at night at the minute and my 2nd 460 STILL hasn't arrived.. :fou: :fou:

So really your keeping up with a part time 460 and a part time 555 quad @3.6. 😀

Mass production is imminent, followed by world domination, wa ha ha......

8 cores or really fast core i7 with HT on. If you're seeing quad core cpus, it's either an error or there 2 (or more) cpu which would make a system of 8(+) cores. (or someone manipulating the client which is against the rules)

Although Standford themself has tried to run Bigadv on a quad core (like an Core 2 quad/Core i5) and even with it overclocked to 4+ ghz, it couldn't complete the WU on time. (although i will say that the Phenom II x6 can complete bigadv (@ the 3.8(+)Ghz range) though client manipulation. earn almost the same amount of PPD)

As for why a core i7's can do bigadv is due to HT. HT tricks the client into seeing 8 ( or 12) cores.

Well there are def some single cpu 4 cores on there i7 920 taking 50hrs per work unit.

Not sure what the HT ref means or client manipulation.

Friend of mines now trying bigadv on his 1090T @3.9ghz, if it works, for the money its got to be a top choice for folding.

😉

HT = Hyperthreading. The client cant tell the difference between cores and threads, thus just reports threads as cores. (thus looking like 8 or 12 cores) It's the only reason why the core i7 920 (and above) can get bigadv WU's while a phenom ii x6 cant.

client manipulation= forcing the client to do something that it shouldn't or normally wouldn't be doing. like your friend making bigadv run on Phenom II x6 😉, unless he/she is taking a Bigadv Wu from a core i7 rig, transfer it over to the x6 rig, then when done, transfer back to the core i7 rig for it too be upload. Thats the only way that it's not client manipulation (which is kinda a hassel in my option. :pt1cable: )

As said before, the Phenom II x6 can complete the Bigadv WU's in time

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=15107&start=15#p150108

it's just without Extra threads, the Phenom II x6 cant get WU's because it doesn't appear as 8 core system.

Just found this thread so I changed both my clients to support the Toms Hardware team. Running a GTX285 and an i5-750 @ 3.8 Ghz. Glad to contribute to a good cause and support the Toms community team as well.

Glad to have you here with us. Welcome to the team! 😀
So having looked at the sheets again I noticed that there are quite a few quad cores doing bigadv.

Whats the minimum spec then?
I believe the bare minimum that Stanford recommends is a quad i7 w/ HT@3.8ghz with dedicated hardware. I wouldn't want to bother with those, since I still want to use my computer. 😉

Oh my, well if you cant beat them.... Join team! 😀 Oh wait, were already on the same team.

Well, well, well. Seams were getting popular! 😀

Welcome to the team! Genericuser! :hello:
