and it seems i was taking a cab.

I've had the preview installed on a secondary drive since around October. My Win 7 install has the notification, and has had Win 10 reserved for a long time. It's still not ready to let me upgrade though. Which is a bit odd. But I'm in no hurry.

I've had no notification to upgrade either but I have just found the .iso residing on one of my storage drives.

me neither.i hope it doesn't turn into a madman where certain programs have to be uninstalled reinstalled etc and passwords remembered by browser are forgotten etc

I personally will not be downgrading to windows 10. It is a better operating system, but at a cost in privacy
It is as bad or worse than Android.
From my testing, everything you do in windows 10 gets uploaded to Microsoft. This is with Cortan, Cloud and Search Assistant all turned off.
There is always constant upload packets sent.
Open a program and you get upload packets. Edit a word document and you get upload packets. Edit Contacts list ,upload packets.
It appears Microsoft took Google's strategy for data mining and tracking and injected it with steroids.
So until the hackers and geeks figure out how to turn the data mining and tracking off I will stick with Win7.

Stick with 7 or 8.1 with Classic shell, Start 8 .power 8, Pokki etc.....
I prefer Classic Shell as it gives you you start screen and starts to the desktop instead of the live tiles crap.

For folding rigs Lubuntu works real well and is very easy to install Nvidia drivers.

Hopefully by then someone with a lot more knowledge than I have will have figured out how to turn all of the data mining, taking of contacts, keylogging etc off.
In earlier versions it was called Windows Customer Experience Improvement program. And you could just turn it off, turn off Live search or just don't install it, and suggested sites, Search suggestions etc... to stop the sending of data.
So far I have not figured out a way to disable any of it yet.

In all honesty, what's your problem with the spying, er, data mining

More people than myself have figured out Microsoft's spying.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/cortana-is-watching,29791.html

I know about the spying, and it may be annoying. But what I'm asking is if it's a big problem for you? It's not like Microsoft's going to use the info against me.

Ideally there will be no spying, and I fully support all action to prevent it and force companies to stop doing it. But at the same time, if it is bundled with something good, I won't avoid the product just to avoid spying.

It is not that I am trying to hide anything or doing something illegal or immoral.
But when you install win10 you agree that Microsoft can data mine everything off of your computer. Contacts, emails, business contracts, personal and business financials, viewing habits, gaming habits, etc.......... Anything on your computer and anything you do with your computer will be uploaded to them to share with whoever pays the price Microsoft wants.
Also since you agreed to share it one subpoena(not even a warrant) is all it takes to get everyone's fingerprints,Facial recognition photos and iris scans to add to the governments database.
It is a lot too close to "1984" and "Big Brother" for my liking.
And yes my phone is rooted and everything Google is removed along with GPS and cell tower triangulation only being allowed for 911 calls.

I enjoy the freedoms granted by the Constitution very much and will not freely give them away!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went through the set up and turned everything possible off. This was before my testing. I was trying to figure out what was causing the upload packets.
In the end I turned everything off I could and was still getting upload packets.
Other people have figured out a lot more things that need to be turned off to stop the upload packets, but then you are back to a win7 machine with the addition of DX12.
So what is the use of upgrading if you have to disable all of the new features to stop Microsoft's spying?
The uploading and spying are more or less built into the operating system.

just about to break into the top 40 in fact 40th and im sticking with windows 7 because i dont like the sound of data mining.its mine to mine not theirs.

Yes, I had been trying out the Win10 previews from the beginning on an older box
Core 2 Duo 2200
4gig of ram
I kept it disconnected from my network with different Workgroup and homegroup settings and unplugged the Ethernet cable except to check for updates in the earlier builds. So I assumed that most of the network traffic when I re-plugged the Ethernet was from it checking for updates.
Then I realized it was sending more than receiving.
So I started checking into and testing theories of windows uploading user data. Everything I did on win10 created upload packets.

Check out some of these features that come embedded in win10 below.

To stop windows 10 from uploading all of your user data.Copied from a website for a program to stop windows uploads.

And thanks to more of Snowdens papers being released this past week, we now know for sure that the government has direct wire taps into 7 of ATT's centers for collecting phone and email messages. Verizon also has direct taps but it did not state how many.

I have the best consumer DSL available where I live. 11mbps down and .768mbps upload. I can upgrade to business class 24down/2up for $200 month, not going to happen.

So with 3 folding clients running I have to set network limits on my boxes.Otherwise if 2 clients try to upload at the same time my internet will go down and continue to go down until I pause one of the clients.
So everything is set up with static IP addresses and bandwidth limits to keep this from happening. So I am very conscience about network upload traffic on my internet connection. It is the only way to keep a constant connection and keep folding and allow the wife to watch Netflix without interruptions.

That is a lot of disabling. I think I'll sit this one out.
