Hi pimpanther. Yea I'm not doing so bad considering I've only been at it a few weeks. Been testing different hardware trying to find the best ROI, looks like I'll be picking up another B Stock GTX 770 when they come back in stock.

When Crashman first joined he was a posting demon.
Racked up several thousand posts in his first weeks.
That was arround 2000-2002 timeframe ,if I remember correctly.
Of course the forums have had a couple major overhauls since that time and a lot has been lost.

Oh right, I never knew that. Every day is still a school day! 😉

Found a thread about it here.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/17017-12-ripley-crashman-posts

38 forum-dwellers and their assorted hardware. At least I think he's referring to our team production. Had some really solid production for the last little while. Set a new weekly record last week, and a new monthly record despite it being February.

We need the points though. Anandtech is catching up quickly. 🙁

I'm looking for a new nVidia card for my son's computer. Thinking maybe a 700 series? Then I'll put his R7 in my wife's computer and set her up folding as well. Hope that will help with our team points.

Question: How do I get started? I've never done folding before, but I believe it's when you contribute your computer's CPU & GPU (resources) to solving the world's problems. I already went to the beginning of this thread, in an attempt to read-up on how to get started, but the first three links simply reload the page and don't redirect anywhere.

Ouch, sorry about that. I guess someone needs to fix those. At any rate here is a good place to start: https://folding.stanford.edu/ We'll be glad to help with any questions you have as once you move beyond the most basic configuration there is a little bit of a learning curve.

https://folding.stanford.edu/

Download the software from this link.
Install it.
During the last part of the install, it will ask for a username and team number.
Our team number is 40051.
It will automatically set up a CPU client.
It will start running.
On the windows version you will have a Icon appear on the right hand side of your taskbar.
Click it once.
In the pop up , select Advanced control.
On the top left click "Configure"
Connection is normaly left as is.
Click "Identity" tab
Make sure your chosen name and team number is correct.
At the bottom under "Passkey" click the link , put your email etc... in the browser page that pops up and submit.
Now click the "Slots" tab.
At the bottom click "ADD".
In the pop up window click the round button on the left under GPU.
Leave everything else as default.
Click "OK" at the bottom.
Click "Save" at the bottom.
You should now have CPU and GPU folding.
Check your email.
Highlight your extremely long passkey. right click and copy.
Go back to the "Identity" Tab.
Under passkey, right click in each space and paste it.
Click "Save" at the bottom.
You now have CPU and GPU folding slots, and will start receiving bonus points after 10 completed work units.

As you can see everyone is eager to help.
If you want to fold with both video cards just go to the "Slots" tab and add another GPU slot.

Welcome to our thread and the wonderful world of folding. :welcome:

Now that you are arround ,I have been having a few problems with the 2P under Lubuntu.
Lubuntu 14.04.2
EXT4 file system
Everything installed as default.
Some work units "Hang" the status page will show 99% but the log will show 53%.
I restart the machine and it will start at 53% again.
Some times the upload will take 3-10 tries to complete.
And today I got a "Bad work unit" error.

Create your own username and passkey. If nothing else it helps you keep track of what you are running, and it is much more fun (in my opinion) to be able to see what your cumulative contribution is. I think everyone you see here in the forums uses a username in f@h.

The choice is really up to you.
We all have usernames and most fold for team 40051. Other team members are ALWAYS welcome here.
If you want to keep track of your points and assign them to a certain team, then you need a user name and team number.

hmm, can't say I have ever seen this before - I've had filesystem errors but those manifest themselves in a different way. Is this system OC'ed? Looks kinda like a computation error in there somewhere.

Yes it has run overclocked for a couple years now.
Problems started when I got back from vacation with a corrupted hard drive.
Have checked all of the hardware and everything appears to be good.
I had read from my searching today the EXT4 file system can sometimes cause these errors.
But thought I would ask for your advice before installing with EXT3 file system.

Ah, I see. I've used them both before. EXT3 doesn't have the barriers bug like EXT4, but I haven't used the newest distros with EXT3. I have had bad SATA controllers on supermicro 2p boards before, hopefully you aren't running into that. I'd say try the reinstall and if you hit similar problems again we'll escalate. You haven't already done a full reinstall have you?

My CPU and GPU is now dedicated to folding for team 40051 but my username is the default Anonymous. When I attempted to set it to rcald2000, it was rejected. Along with the emailed passcode, I received the error:

**Note that your username was modified because it contained troublesome characters.

Any idea what that's about? Regardless, This Is So Cool ! I always believed that folding could only happen when the computer was idle; I now feel very silly for making that assumption. This has also inspired me to take Corsair H110i GTX off my shelf and swap it into my build. I've always used the be quiet dark rock 3, which is one of my favorite air coolers. But honestly I never felt the need to overclock my 5820k until now.

Do you guys have any promotional material for me to try to persuade some of my friends to join along? I feel bad for being so late to the game.
