Are there any characters I should avoid in a username?

Yes. We strongly recommend sticking to just letters, numbers and underscore. Right now, we reserve the characters # ^ ~ |. # is used for firewall differentiation (see above). We want to save ^ | and ~ for other problems which might come up. Also, don’t put spaces in your username; please use some character like “_” instead. Finally, please note that usernames are case sensitive, so “Dave” and “dave” and “dAVE” are all different usernames.

Is it possible (say if you copy/pasted your username) that you snuck a 'space' in somehow?

@EXT64 I wish I had the picard double facepalm GIF ready because my username just updated now. The only difference this time is that I updated my passcode and username separately. I have no explanation but at least it worked now. Thanks for the follow-up.

Hi rcald, nice to have you on board.

Are you folding with both cards and cpu, just wondered what your running temps were like?

Also looking forward to your ppd with that system 😀

One thing to be aware of is that you can't fold on the GPUs while playing games. But that's about the only major thing to be aware of in regular use.

Welcome to the team! :welcome:

Well guess while im roaming around again, I'll get that fix.

Man i really let that guide go when I stopped actively folding.

hmm.... seams like im having some issues editing the original post...

I've corrected the table of contents link on the guide and had no issues editing there but this thread i cant edit the original post to update the table of contents here....

Well i'll have to try later. In the mean time, here is what it should look like once that issue is resolve.

This may be an unfortunate case of a thread having gotten too big/long. We do run into some issues when that happens. If possible, I would suggest remaking this as a new thread, and linking back to this one as a reference as needed. Would be happy to help get the new one stickied as well, since this is a great initiative :)

I have found that this is highly dependent on the game and WU. I can play most games just fine with some WUs and have had to pause folding just to watch youtube with others. I should say I don't play many FPS games and of course YMMV.

I never had problems with CPU folding but the newer GPU stuff is a pain sometimes.

I can not speak for everyone but that would be great!!!
The problem is,and why no one has responded yet, is that we have had many broken promises over the years concerning folding. So everyone is still skeptical about our possible position.

We have been promised a sticky.
We have been promised a dedicated forum section for more visibility.
Many broken promises over the years.
This thread is what we have and is kind of like home. We do not want to lose it as there is still a lot of good information in it between our banters.

Hope you can help for the betterment of the team and folding.

Thanks
Rick

I cannot promise a dedicated forum section. Categorical changes/additions/removals require developer action, which can be hard to secure when they are working on other larger projects.

I can, however, make this a sticky. I can also help with the visibility issue to a degree, by adding an official "Folding" tag to the forum system, which will automatically append itself to any forum thread that contains certain keywords. That will allow you to search for the tag and show any threads with that tag, which is about as close to a dedicated forum section as I can promise.

Not sure who made and broke those promises in the past, but I'm happy to assist you folks on this matter. After all, if you're going to run this project using the Tom's Hardware moniker, this is the least that we can do. I can be a little forgetful though, so please don't hesitate to reach out to me via PM once you guys have sorted out the new thread situation.

I don't think we were ever "promised" our own section but it was mentioned that the "possibility" would be looked into when this funky new forum software was rolled out and bedded in.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I was here (July 5th of 2015 it looks like) I'd forgotten my password, and then actually forgot I had a forum account for a while. Got an email from Tom's and remembered to try again! Sadly I'm still not folding (GPU unstable, CPU is slow at F@H so I run BOINC) but I've always liked this thread as it's a little slower paced and not quickly finished like many help threads.

I guess I'm just saying hi! 😀

Question: If I pause my folding, and then resume it, I get a momentary vertical glitch across the screen for a split second. Does anyone else experience that?

I'm trying to determine if there is an issue with my new display or it's a normal response to my GPU going from 0 to 100.

Yeah, falling to far down in the ranks here and overall. Plan is to replace my 780ti's with 1080ti's next month and put them to work. The 780ti's don't fold well for some reason. I have reference design heat sinks and they constantly throttle. Pull 200 frames in BF4 no problem...

Only running a 970 at the moment so I'll only buy a few weeks unless I can get the new hardware running before then. Better step up your game!
