With the lackluster launch of the 4050 8G, only the 3060 12G and 3060 T 8G are in the race.

Context (skip):

The issue is that at 3440x1440 the usual benchmarks don't apply as gains lower. In fact even 1440p benchmarks can't be trusted because the reviewer sometimes don't specify whether they benched 2560- or 3440 x1440.

Problem:

Anyway, with 3440x1440 the question is, is a 3060 Ti with only 8GB of VRAM that worth it? I mean The Last of Us is already hogging insane amounts of VRAM, and with current gen consoles already well above 12GB, one has to wonder what the landscape will look like even 1-2 years from now, as game-dev eye both platforms.
But then again, we are looking at a 20-30% performance increase. That's not small.

Additionally there's a price difference. The 3060 12G costs 322€ while the 3060 Ti 8G costs 365€. The 4050 costs 430-460€ at best (thought worse ref. brand).

What do you think is the right choice for now and the future. Obviously the budget should stay within 3060 and ti region. The ti is already getting very sharp towards too expensive to justify.
I'll try to get rid of the 2060 for 150€.
EDIT: No AMD cards, specifically NVIDIA.

Not knowing your area, I’d consider the amd rx 6700xt or 6750xt. In the USA you can get those cards for just over 300 and they have 12gb of vram. I’d suggest the 6800xt but that may be above your pricing. But the 6700xt/6750xt should be performance wise in the neighborhood of the rtx 3060ti, sometimes trading blows with the 3070 but you get 12gb vram vs 8, which going forward may be helpful.

Good point, EU, so our pricing won't match (e.g 4050: $399 US, 440€ EU ≈ $471 yes you read that correctly four seven one...), also I should've mentioned no AMD cards sorry, will edit question.

16GB VRAM is required for enjoyable gameplay at the mentioned resolution.

If you want an Nvidia card now, get a 4080.

Or, you can wait for 2 months and get a 4060 Ti 16GB version.

Both are badly priced in my opinion.

Did you skip the part where I mention pricing?

so according to some comparisons, the additional VRAM is just not worth it. Yes some games do exceed it but the additional horse power is worth more (sometimes up to 20 fps) than additional fps.

I suppose lower the texture details to high or doing some other tricks (resizeableBAR?) is good enough.

After all my current 2060 6G scratches the limit. I suppose with the thread being dead I will make due with just lower settings well into the future, but taking advantage of DLSS to mitigate lower VRAM, while also profiitng from the substantially higher performance compared to the 3060 non ti
